  1. ok a) he probably has better amps than you, b) the -1 octave is intermittent, not constant, and c) watch the video and you'll see him detune it.

or are you actually trying to argue that the first chord is E, not C?

it's Cminor and my amp isn't shit, infact matt has the same head in his rack, so that's quite a stupid point from you really. also the pitchshifting carries on for fucking ages, not just the intro.

also you are suggesting that they were filmed at the same time in order, so that's also a redundant point.

  2. well you agree that the first chord (the one he strikes 4 times) is C, yes? and then he goes onto the top string to kick off the chord sequence and starts with an open string? well how the hell is he going to play a low C on a string tuned to E?

    what low C?

please remember, there's a fucking pitchshifter playing a -1octave when he strikes the chord in the first place

unless of course that -1octave is playing a note lower than a standard tuned bass.....into a guitar amp, with guitar speakers..my amp (which is a bass amp) can barely handle a blue box playing a D into it.

  3. map of the problematique is in drop c, so he's not going to tune it back up to standard for the riff at the end is he?

at what point has motp ever been in drop c?

that riff is in E, listen to the RATM one, sounds exactly the same, and maggie's farm is in E, motp is in E, i have no idea where this drop c thing came from?

  4. I meant Matt plays it drop C but apart from that it's the same as Rage do. The stresses of writing english coursework seem to be preventing me from writing properly...bugger!

no, muse play in standard, not in drop c, it's exactly the same, infact, ratm's version sounds heavier.

  5. hey i was wondering does anyone have the tab of maggies farm the way matt plays it at the end of map of the problematique. The way he played it on abbey road was spectacular

same as RATM, cept the fill morello does is replaced with harmonics and stuff, just piss around, no point playing it exact, first of all, i doubt matt bellamy had a plan at the time and second of all, playing it exactly as matt did would be out of spirit of what he is doing and out of spirit of alot of riffs muse do between songs, why people need exact tabs is beyond me.....do people really have no imagination? no creativity? so blind they can't see tell what matt is doing with his guitar?

and it't not drop c, standard, ratm have never played in drop c, just standard and drop d and occasionally Eb.

  6. Well you recommended them to me and pointed out they have a gig down here, they seem really quite good, so...

Just listening to the other bands playing. One is alright, the other one is a bit pants. Hmm.

did i? don't remember that

still not seen them myself. but yeah, get yourself there and support swindon bands, we've now lost belarus :(

  7. yeah, my girlfriend is like an uber graphics student so she can sort out our publicity :D just gotta make sure our music stands up to the flyer now :p Speaking of that, I finally managed to get us into a tangled web of noise at the end of the set :D :D warbling into a distorted 15w practice amp

your girlfriend bought you your memory man aswell didn't she? is there any chance we could share her? :( *is jealous*

and now you mention horrible noise, i want to go  couldn't imagine playing a set without loads of noise at the end, at our last gig we tried not to do it........and failed :$

  8. Gig in Leicester at the shed if anyone's from around there... :p flyer attached (you should check out the flyer anyway, it's pretty impressive!)

 that flyer is really cool.

unfortunately i live nowhere near leicester.

oh and the 3rd storey chemist ep is going to be on sale from march 13th :)

  9. how is midi done especially on Logic express on Mac?

get a usb midi interface thing, hook the whammy up to the midi out, then set logic to send midi information to that and go into the sequencer, then edit the appropriate midi command for whatever you want to do and press play :)

i'm using cubase on a regular laptop and an emagic mt4, never tried it with logic, if you want to send me your mac i'd give it a go ;)

  10. should point out, anyone who cared about my band recording (none of you? oh well, i'll carry on in total ignorance  ) it's not gone to plan, we started, but due to me being really ill for the last week, we haven't been able to continue :(

and now we don't know when we'll be able to finish, might see if we can rent a hall for a weekend or something and go mental in the near future.

  11. Is it a wierd kind of 'burp' or frog noise?

If so, it's chris and an envelope filter:) .

nah, they just gave chris a curry and a few stellas before the show, they just mic him up :)

then stikz it fru a fuzz factory n 2 big muffs lol

  12. depends what he used to alter the pitch though... somehow I doubt the whammy is the best sounding tool out there. if he used something that doesn't easily allow the settings to be changed, either remotely or with a sequencer, then that could have been the simplest way to get a decent sound

either that or he just wanted to use all of his amps at once

Any form of pitchshifting I've used has been terrible, the whammy isn't actually that bad compared to others, but if it is the best sounding tool for it's job.....:stunned:

I'm amazed nobody has come out with a 24-bit pitchshifter, or something more powerful :(

  13. it made sense to me... seems like he basically set up a sequencer and hooked it up to three amps, I would assume one at normal pitch, one at -1 and one at +1, and he set the sequencer to cycle between the amps to create the rhythm

Yeah, that's the impression I've got.

In other words, Matt as per usual is doing everything the difficult way :)

  14. The article about Matt Bellamy in "Gitarist" (January 2007, Dutch guitar magazine) contained tons of info about his new gear, which I already posted here, but also something very interesting about the intro sound of Map of the Problematique. My best try translating it:

    (Matt quoting)

[...] 'I used the computer even more in the music on 'Black Holes & Revelations'. The song Map Of The Problematique is a good example. I used a modular synthesizer playing a sequence. This is what I used for three amplifiers, each with his unique pitchshift. The amps went on and off after eachother which created a rhytm. It is a guitar sound, but because of the on/off it's more like a synthesizer. I'm always interested in mixing like that.' [...]

Awww poor English but I tried to translate it literally.

I won't slate your english, because it's cool you can even speak it in the first place, but yeah, it doesn't make much sense.

    So it is pitchshifted guitar?

  15. wen i think of analog synths i think of the sounds my old blueberry mac made before it died.

Wen i think of digital i think of either a triton or a REAL synth like the korg Radias or the novation x-station.

This, my friend, is a real synth:

    m55_5whole.jpg

Although, give me a couple of laptops, an akai sampler and a kaoss pad anyday

  16. Yes, listening and using are different things. But from what I've heard analogue synths sound a fuckload better than digital

That would depend on the synths your comparing them to.

A Moog next to a K1r is always going to sound better. But I've never noticed anything worth raving about or spending huge amounts of money on compared to analog modelling.
