How to live stream gigs with your phone

Alright so, after seeing what Carolina Milan did with the Webster Hall, I don't see a reason why gigs shouldn't be livestreamed by fans (with the exception of festivals where the phone networks go down completely). Not a fan of holding phones during the entire gig, but just putting the phone in your pocket is better than nothing.

I have an Android device

 

Alright so unfortunately periscope is not available on Android for some stupid reason and until then, you'll need to use the app Meerkat or Livestream which can be found on the playstore.

 

Meerkat requires viewers to login through twitter and that's certainly not ideal, but it's an option. I've heard Stre.am is alright and it's available on both major platforms.

Personally, I would recommend the Livestream app because it allows you to create events and you don't need to bother with finding the link to new streams (Meerkat is like Periscope where each stream is a different link) and the web interface is pretty great. Also, you can publish whatever you stream at the end of a broadcast. It does use about 150kbps for streaming though.

I have an iPhone

 

Don't want to bother installing iTunes to see what's available, but Periscope and Livestream are the big ones. If you're using Livestream, create an event and stream through there so we can watch or at least listen.

 

Share the event on the forums so we'll see it as soon as you start.

 

If Livestream doesn't work, use Periscope and link us to your twitter before the gig. Also there's always stre.am but you'll still need to link us to your Twitter.

Buy one of these. This will charge your phone at least five times (assuming you have some phone with a 3300mAh battery which is huge for a phone and still pretty rare) so it's great for queuing and you'll find other reasons to use it.

tl;dr

 

Use Livestream, it's the best, but you'll need to have an account which can be made in 30 seconds with an email address.

 

Make sure the mic is facing upwards

 

Bring a battery pack, please.
