It is my belief that Mr. Manson did find a way to have them both working at the same time. And probably without the need of a buffer since it alters the input impedance going to the FF and will make it behave differently. Perhaps I'm wrong. But someone stated a while back that Matt doesn't use them both at the same time live! And that got me thinking and I came to the same conclusion. Maybe the fix that was suggested to solve my battery drain problem will also allow them to work together but I haven't tried it yet. It's about replacing the guitar's output jack with a 9-pin output jack that supposedly will separate completely both circuits. Anyway, it doesn't bother me that I can't use them both together. If I want to, my Helix has an almost perfect reproduction of the FF which I can use with the sustainaic. Only the battery drain bothers me. And you can always buy a Cort MBC-1 or a Manson Model from Manson's and ask if the Sustainiac and the Fuzz Factory will work together without problems and then buy them the installation of both! I like it a lot. Very defined and warm sounding. Great clarity and very dynamic. You can also "split coil" it. They can put a switch or wire it to a push-pull knob. Basically it changes the gain of the "pickup". I use it mostly in the single coil sound.

Yup.Same problem. As soon as you turn on the fuzz the sustain stops. A buffer between the guitar and the fuzz is not an option at least for me. Tried it before. The noise level increases substantially. Tough you can work with the sustainiac and the fuzz at the same time. Cheers

I don't know... I'm not doing the installation. My luthier it and he is not inexperienced tough it's the first guitar with two internal systems he is working on. I'm not sure he did what you suggest but i'm almost certain unless there's double grounding of the sustainiac somewhere. He did have both black wires from the batteries connected to the ring of the stereo output jack and one to the ground which I suppose it's the main ground from one of the pots. The sustainiac came pre-installed so all the grounds where soldered where they are supposed to. And still the sustainiac didn't turn off with the guitar unplugged unless he disconected the black wire of the FF battery from the output jack. Do you have a guitar with both the FF and the sustainiac installed internally? Could you share some pictures of the wiring perhaps and the output jack? That would be awesome if you could!

Hi. Last info I got about this is this. If you have two batteries for two different systems inside the guitar like a pre-amp or a fuzz or a sustainer you need a 9-pin output jack to isolate both batteries. With one system the stereo output jack and the battery black cable connected to its second sleeve provides a short with the guitar unplugged that takes the battery off the system and doesn't drain it. With two batteries from what I was told I have to isolate both of them using this type of jack. Check stewmac if that's your case. They sell them. I ordered mine already. Anyone else has some other insight about this? Cheers

Hey guys! I'm havin a problem and maybe someone can help out. I modded my Cort MBC-1. Installed a sustainiac and a fuzz factory. It's all working great except the sustainiac battery is always draining even with the guitar unplugged! I have both ground cables - from the FF and sustainiac - soldered to the same sleeve on the output stereo jack. If I disconnect the ground from the FF the sustainiac turns off with the guitar unplugged, as it should. But the FF doesn't work... Do you know how I solve this? Do I have to ground the FF somewhere else? Can someone post a pic of the wiring in their cavity and the output jack please? Thanks a lot!! Cheers!

Mine is pretty good. Since january you've been playing with it regularly. First problem was the jack. Had to tight it strong so it didn't came loose.Suppose that's normal. But didn't change it. It did the job. Now the volume pot needs replacing. When rolling it to full it makes scratchy noises. The switches and tone pot are all ok. The finishing is ok too but I only play at home. The frets are also fine. Cheers

Hi again. Sorry to bother but I didn't quite understand. You said By external you mean the FF7 or the original FF? And is it connected directly to the guitar? By cable? With no pedal or buffer or whatsoever in between? If so and if you don't have any issues with the sustainiac that's strange. I tought the pedals were similar... besides the extras of the FF7. And you don't have any issues with the FF7 and sustainiac no matter what you do with the knobs in the pedal? Thanks and cheers!

Hi! So as I was discussing it seems you also can't use the sustainer with your internal FF? But you can use the FF7 directly plugged to the guitar with the sustainer? With no extra noise when you turn on both and with no loss in the sustained notes? And your FF7 is original? Not a clone? That's great! Now I'm curious about that pedal. Is your sustainer the Sustainiac? or Fernandes sustainer? You mentioned custom. And have you tried a FF pedal directly to the guitar and with the sustainer? Cheers

I guess you're right... I rewatched some videos from early 2000's and in fact most of the guitars he used for PiB didn't have the sustainer. Then I went to check all guitars in the wiki site and in fact found only one guitar with both circuits installed (judging the wiki is correct). The 007 which was not even used live... I mentioned SMBH because I always thought he used the FF for that big fat sound and he uses the sustainiac alot. Guess not... Nevertheless I was hoping I could put the two working together because I have a lot of sounds with fuzz but i'm not using the FF because of the problem. I'm using a great fuzz from the POD HD but if I could use the FF it would sound even better. Cheers

Hi. Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately I already tried messing around with the knobs. My luthier told me the same thing. The noise from the FF after the Wah or any pedal is seriously increased. Only turning the gate all the way up I can get the noise to go away but alters the tone too much and I can't put it to oscillate any more. And that's exactly the video I mentioned. What troubles me is especially Plug in Baby because it seems the FF is always on and it seems that he uses the sustainiac during the verses... Same with SMBH. Anyway, thanks for your suggestions. Hi. You're right! Didn't remember to check that... That's the conclusion I got a while ago. Since some guys were debating the use of FF in some live sounds. It's quite clear in a video of New Born that right before he starts playing the intro riff and after the transition from the piano where he does all the squeaky sounds that he turns off the switch of the FF (if turning up the switch means off). Anyways... since we have so many fans and guitar players around here maybe some could figure out how to get both to work at the same time. I have an alternate fuzz sound from a POD that I use and I like it but it doesn't have the definition of notes and the punch you get from the FF. Cheers

Thanks for the feedback. I suppose then the problem is the same with internal fuzz. I didn't say but my FF is not onboard. But the problem is the same. It happens when my FF is right after the guitar. I suppose it has something to do with the impedance like somebody already said. Using a buffered pedal before the FF changes the impedance going (or coming?) from the FF and that's enough for the sustainer to work. The same thing I suppose happens with turning down the volume of the guitar. The impedance changes and the sustainer works. But I'm probably wrong. Don't know much about these things... Hi! The same thing hapenned to me too... Sustainiac and original fuzz factory pedal on a LP guitar. Never solved the problem. I stopped using the FF when using the sustainiac. The workaround from nerd herd works. I tried with a crybaby buffered in front of the FF and the sustainiac came back on but it introduced a lot more noise to the signal. Also another work around but not very good in my opinion and it may not work in your case. Rolling back the volume pot on the guitar brings the sustainiac on (without the buffered pedal workaround). Try it. For me it takes away the tone and gain of the guitar and it's not very usable. I use it with another fuzz after the FF. Yep! 2 fuzz boxes. Since I tried it I started to wonder if that's the workaround Matt uses since he still uses the keeley fuzz pedal I think. Also talked to Alan from the Sustainiac company and he didn't help much. If you somehow manage to solve the problem, please share it! Cheers!

Hi! Glad you liked it! By the way... I don't have a guitar like yours, just a LP with sustainiac installed and a FF in a stompbox. I do have the same problem with weak sustain with the FF on. Did you solved the issue or asked the guys at Manson's? Or perhaps you found some tips or causes for the problem somewhere? Or maybe someone has/had similar issue? Thanks!
