  1. Furygirl,

I will not be able to sleep or have some sense of closure, if I do not a give Psycho a second listen with my much better sound / speaker system at full blast and not in a work environment. I owe all of you an apology. The sergeant drill bits was the one ruined it for me on first listen and the one which gave me that The 2nd Law vibe/lame Pop feel. Earlier, it was the song Uprising that I thought was all over in this song. Could not really detect it, on second listening at full blast. Before I listened to it again, I put The Resistance in my record player - I was ready to comeback here, and declare that Psycho is a sort of stripped-down version of Uprising with a cringe-worthy voice over, The 2nd Law style.

I am neutral to Psycho after 2nd listening - maybe more leaning to the side of I like it, because the only thing I still cannot get over with is the sergeant drill bits. Not a big fan (yet) of Matt's vocals and the song's melody/tunes which reminded me a bit on first listening of SMBH which I am not a huge fan too. I was a fool for hearing a mishmash or bits of the 3 Muse albums I like the least or hated. Shockingly on second listen, it sounded much fresher (so different that on 3rd listen, don't be surprised of a 360 on Matt's effort here). Yeah, maybe, it was the bass and drums ...

  2. Furygirl,

One more thing :D. I think I said in the other thread that the first song might be enough for me. I will wait for the entire album. And not to think too much of Psycho.

/I will shut up now. Glad it is working for some people.

  3. Wow, that was a lot better listening thru earbuds with the sound turned up to 11. :awesome: The "ass" part is my favorite. I agree it's a bit Josh Homme-ish, but I love him, so...

It's not a terribly complex song with a lot of variety, but it's rawk and fun. 7/10.

I don't think this is just a lyric video, but I think it's THE video. I can't imagine putting that much effort into it if it wasn't the main one.

I guess you only love old Muse. :( I don't see how this is the same direction as T2L at all.

Well, I might be too harsh or something. I am pretty sure I will not like this one, no matter how many times I will listen to it. I will revisit TR and T2L, so I can be more clear with my disappointment and criticism. If I am wrong (expect an apology from me), I might dislike this song less later. My heart and soul are absolutely ready to welcome back the new Muse in my life again that is why I am here. This is not the song for me, maybe not just my cup of tea - just felt like the vocals, the melody and whatever rock parts of this song gave me a "I heard that before ... " vibe or at least the pop parts remind me of the last album.

  4. I've only heard it once so far, and not a fan... but it's certainly not because it's not "heavy" enough, or because of the profanity.

It just didn't click with me at all. I didn't feel anything for it at all.

I am going to blame the noise background here at work. Or the lack of bass with the system I used. However, I am afraid to feel like the below quote on repeated listening (I am not the only one apparently - but for different reasons).

Cringeworthy, not a fan at all.

I do not know why people said it rocks, cause it has some obligatory Muse riffage?- which sounds like the same riffs from another Muse song I cannot recall right now? It was definitely Psycho Youtube video that I listened to.

  5. First-time and only listening ... Played it in youtube at work so I just listened to the audio.

I want to like it but right now, I will be honest, I do not like it at all, very Pop'sh, going to the same direction T2L took.

I am not sure if a repeated listening is necessary. Or if I am just having a bad day.

    :(

  6. Oh, a B-side collab with . Seriously, who is the producer and/or who mixed the album?

Edit: I am hoping John Cornfield is back on The Muse Team or heavily involved on this.

Edit 2: Per Muse Drones wiki - if accurate, this guy, Robert John "Mutt" Lange. I have a mixed feelings after I saw his resume includes working with some mediocre or meh bands and ugh Nickelback. Let's wait and see though.

  7. I hope so, if it means less second rate songs on the album

Exactly. I am trying to be optimistic with the quality of all tracks that made it in the album. Hence, my thoughts of at the last-minute - Bellamy will be like "Hmmmm ... an epic sequel to our most-beloved song would be a nice B-side." :D No fillers in the album out of so many great materials they have had to pick from. We waited for so long but

at the end of the day,

    do not expect too much.

  8. I reckon Mercy could be a slower one

I was thinking of that. However, I went with, it will not be paced like we expected it be based on the title.

Yeah, maybe that is the one that will start slow then really rocking during the chorus and all the way thru the end. Not in the way of Eurasia or Survival, please. Lyrically and musically.

  9. Which do you think are the obligatory (2 or 3) slow songs?

Just a hunch, Reapers and Aftermath. And possibly, another one that starts slow and really rocking fast (still stripped-down and not over-produced) tempo.

I am hoping if we have 2 or 3 of that, they better be as great like the underrated or Musegasmic slow epic in Absolution.

    Ruled by Secrecy

    Blackout

    Endlessly.

  10. 1. Dead Inside - Full blown out death metal

    2. [Drill Sergeant] - Clip from FMJ film (or whatever the IG clip is from)

    3. Psycho - Obviously the lead single, groovy and heavy + distorted and filtered vox

    4. Mercy - Slower, maybe clean or acoustic guitars and high pitched vox

    5. Reapers - Slide guitars! Invincible part 2! Exclamation marks!

    6. The Handler - Djent

    7. [JFK] - Not really about JFK but Cillit Bang

    8. Defector - Heavy shoegaze song

    9. Revolt - Chant song like KOC or Uprising. Lots of 'heys'

    10. Aftermath - Ambient breakdown into heavier post rock into incredibly aggressive distortion at the end of the song featuring Sigur Ros

    11. The Globalist - Like the heavier riff section of Animals, but different and longer

    12. Drones - FUNK METAL

I respect your thoughts on this. But I really hope, none sounds any of the tracks in their last 3 albums. Not that I am hating too much of the newer ones. Time to move on or really evolve. Stripped down, in my mind not equals, any of the last 3 albums. Not overproduced too.

  11. Just for the titles and per Bellamy's tweets - this is their most politically charged / themed album, right? He is at least not BSing on that one, lol. The sample teases / brief clips / tunes sound great or at least interesting to me. Based on the short teasers, can somebody summarize the albums's obvious influences aka inspirations - I know most of you are good in this - thought I heard RATM in one of them. Maybe it was not album related.

Please no more U2, Queen and ehem ...
