  1. I think the biggest surprise about this entire album is that the sappy, slow build love ballad is almost universally considered the best song. And I agree completely. It's a 10/10 for me. It's a perfect song.

I'd probably rank my favorites like this, and then the rest of the songs idc about enough to rank. Waff is fun but its like a novelty song and its hard to take seriously. It'll be fun live though.

    Verona

    KOBK

Euphoria (Musiest song on the album)

    WSD

    Liberation

    Halloween

Nothing on youtube, nothing on twitter, nothing on Reddit, nothing on discord and no new activity on last.fm for the new tracks.

But to be honest, if I had the chance to get my hands on an early copy myself, I don't even know how I would leak it: I don't have a cd player anymore and my record player doesn't have a usb port to copy music in mp3 format.

Yeah I think that's the issue. Most people can play the record but don't have the means to copy from it. I'd take just an external recording of it playing from a phone at this point. That's how I heard snippets from ST and I was happy with just a few teasers.

  3. Photos of physical copies in people's hands are starting to show up online. It's imminent guys.

It's midnight where I live and I'm probably going to stay up another 3-4 hours at least hoping for something to break. Even though I kind of need to sleep for something tomorrow morning lol. Too much hype.

The 'will of the people' line just rubs me the wrong way. Super annoying and way too similar to the beautiful people. Those other three songs aren't as annoying to me.

Oh yeah true. Honestly when we heard the snippet I  was hoping that would just be for the intro. Not driving the entire song.

WOTP sounds mega live. The RaR and RiP vids look like loads of fun. But why we need Pressure in the set too, idk.

Agree. I guess that song has a big enough fanbase. It was their only song to be played on the radio from ST once it dropped. The other two singles were pre album-release.

  6. A long time ago when this board was super active someone had a thread about small snippets in Muse songs that make you jaw drop and go "holy fuck" the first time you heard them.

My answer way back then was when the guitar kicked in, in Exo part 1.

KOBK did that to me from 3:10-3:48. Pure fucking glory. Stockholm esque riff>neo classical tapping progression>random falsetto and modern Matt shouting (lmao)>"Either KILL OR BE KILLLLLLLLLLED!!!!"

    Just fucking perfect.

Yes, of course. But that is the arrogance of online ‘researchers’. They see any overlap with the nonsense they spread as confirmation of the nonsense they spread.

They go: ‘Muse say ministry of truth!!1!! Red pill confirmed!!’, rather than: ‘George Orwell wrote 1984, a novel about propaganda and oppression in an authoritarian regime. Since its publication, 1984 is often referenced by opponents of real and perceived authoritarianism and propaganda. In response, propagandists themselves like to accuse their political opponents of Orwellian practices.

Some recent examples of 1984 references are memes referring to the Biden administration’s efforts to curb online misinformation as the ‘Ministry of Truth’, and the band Muse referencing the ‘Ministry of Truth’ in their video accompanying the song ‘Will of the People’, which, like much of their work, expresses a generic sense of outrage against the ruling class.
    ’

I agree completely just the timing is a little suspect. This became a resurgent phrase/almost meme just in the past few months.

Perhaps, maybe it would have been better if they used giant teddy bears again.

I'm not trying paint Matt as one thing or another but if you're going use imagery of protesters violently breaking into government institutions and destroying them, maybe folk are going to be reminded of very recent examples of such things.

It's not technically a government building. The ministry of truth became a meme/1984 reference recently because the Biden admin talked about creating a government body to combat online misinformation. So people started jokingly calling it the "ministry of truth" ala 1984.

I'm not sure how many of you live in America or are aware of things like this. But either way, as much as online misinformation/conspiracies may be varying levels of a problem, the idea of a government body set up to decide what is real/true or not is insanely alarming and dystopian. Knowing Matt's past stances, he would be alarmed at the thought of that. It's not a right or left thing. It's a freedom vs government control thing.

From Matt: “‘Will of the People’ is fictional story set in a fictional metaverse on a fictional planet ruled by a fictional authoritarian state run by a fictional algorithm manifested by a fictional data centre running a fictional bank printing a fictional currency controlling a fictional population occupying a fictional city containing a fictional apartment where a fictional man woke up one day and thought ‘fuck this.’

Wonder why Matt is emphasising the fictional part ..,

The over emphasis of fictional to me seems to be a yeah, it's a fictional setting, but all these things exist in the real world sort of take. Being ironic basically.

Worth pointing out WOTP was written and recorded in 2021 before Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Maybe because the video is very reminiscent of the January 6th insurrection and seems to visualize those folk as the heroes and good guys hence Matt trying to deflect criticism with fictionalized doing some very heavy lifting. The lyric seems to be more nuanced (2nd verse seems to imply and trumpians view of themselves is wrong and somewhat ironic) but that video,  oof, is at best, very very naive or ignorant of how folk would view it.

I wouldn't go that far, and don't think Matt is team insurrection at all. And either way the characters in the video are way more Antifa type than anything else.

But then I saw the ministry of truth building lol. The way I see it, I don't think Matt is a pro insurrection, Trumper nut, but he probably is more worried about authoritarian governments exercising increased authoritarianism the past 2 years more than anything else. Which I think is a justified concern that alot of people have.

Also I can't imagine anyone listening to compliance and NOT thinking it was being sung from the perspective of an authoritarian government to its people. Idk how else you could spin the lyrical content of that song.

    Seems legit to me!

But I swore after I heard compliance and saw how short the album would be not to listen to anymore pre album singles. So... whenever the next one comes out I'm probably not visiting around here till the album drops. Wanna keep it fresh.

I feel the same way but I'll def do one more. And I figured it'd be the title track.

I just don't want another scenario where we have 6 songs released before the album which was a fear of mine when it was announced as August release back in March.

Haven’t posted here in a while, sad to see how quiet this place is now - the Reddit seems to be where it’s at these days.

As a huge Origin fan that was absolute heaven for me tonight, I’d seen Bliss at London Stadium on its surprise 2019 appearance and lost my mind to CE at that Shepherd’s Bush show, but when Matt suddenly sat down at the piano during the encore, I was confused - all that’s left must be TIRO and Knights, right? What on earth could he be about to…

…and that first note hits and I almost burst into tears. Space Dementia was the absolute #1 wish to see live for me, it was on my SBE top 10 and when I found out it was played at La Cigale I was devastated I’d missed it and thought I’d lost my last chance. Only its fourth play in fourteen years(!) and that ending was incredible, making me wonder why on earth it ever became a rarity and not mind the standard harmonica + Knights afterwards! Plus the mad appearance of The Gallery which felt like a fever dream, the new songs, overall just seeing them again for the first time in three years was enough but I wasn’t expecting it to be my third fave Muse gig so far! If they rotate the rarities tomorrow (maybe Dead Star and/or Butterflies?) then they are well and truly back to being perfect. Great to meet fellow Muse fans in the queue too and wear my 2013 purple tour t-shirt with pride.

Looking forward to tomorrow and eventually the new album!

This is so sweet to read. I totally understand how this feels. Getting CE at 2011 Lollapalooza as an American fan since 2003 was a life's wish granted. That must've been an amazing feeling tonight and I would die to hear SD live.

Warner also released those same album details in English. Someone posted it on Reddit:

“With Muse being Muse, there is NO bowing to any singular genre.  The album’s title track “Will Of The People” brings playful provocation to a dystopian glam-rocker while there is an innocence and a purity to the nostalgic electronic textures of “Verona.” From the visceral thrill of “Won’t Stand Down,” to the industrial-tinged, granite heavy riffs of “Kill Or Be Killed,” or the lightning-bolt rush of “Euphoria,” the album concludes with the frenetic finale of the brutally honest “We Are Fucking Fucked.” “

So it sounds like us suspecting the album actually is finished - is true. I can't remember if the band ever explicitly said that but I think I remember them doing so.

I keep seeing normies parrot that it's delayed til August because of Vinyl production issues...thats an L if true. Seriously should just release it on normal formats and have the collectors edition come out in August. I guess they're worried it won't sell after the initial hype has died if the album were to release next month.

I’m curious what you think then. I disliked DI at first because I felt it was a Madness repeat. DI is the better of the two songs, but I still feel they just improved upon Madness and gave it a bit of a do-over.

Compliance is eh...not bad but the lyrics are cringey. Def feels like a concept album. My main complaint is I wish the synths had a little more grit to them rather than the glam 80s vibe they give. The bridge with the Knight Rider sounding melody is a step in the right direction for me. Imagine if all the synths had that gritty tone to them.

As for DI and Madness. DI for me is just all about that bass and Matt's unbelievably good vocal performance. Also a sucker for the drop C solo. Madness is just tonally not what I like about Muse and while DI did have to grow on me but I think its probably their best pop song ever. Honestly don't even think its close.

So, Compliance is objectively shit and will als be in my head all day after one listen.

Oh, and everything I said before in this thread about Matt appealing to the wrong crowd still applies, though these lyrics (and the (red?) pill imagery in the video could easily imply that he’s including conspiracy theory peddlers as part of the evil “they”. CoVid deniers will love it though.

EDIT: Obligatory third listen update: this is this album’s Dead Inside. Initial boyband vibe, fakeout for those who were expecting something a bit more ‘heavy’, but pretty damn crafty in the end. Not so shit after all.

Haven't heard it yet but DI is probably the second best song on Drones after The Handler. It's a great song and was new territory for them.

Sped up to the tempo of the chant, it matches perfectly. I even layered them over each other to triple check. This is in D though, and the vocals seem to be in A.

Back on topic though but thanks for sharing this! Hadn’t heard it before.

It actually made me bust out my whammy pedal and reinstall Cubase to play unsustainable on this bad boy I just got last week. Probably the greatest piece of Muse memorabilia I could ever ask for just shy of Matt actually handing you a guitar from the stage.
