It's certainly not the best song on the album, but that's digressing.
-
The hopeless optimism.
I'm certainly not saying there will be songs on this album of the quality of those I mentioned. Just that there is the possibility that the better material has yet to be heard.
Edit: Their latest interview on Beats 1 kinda backs up my thoughts.
Algorithm: Classic piano on top of a weird blade runner, computer game soundtrack
Blockade: Really heavy track sounding something like Newborn
The Dark Side: Has ties to tracks they've done in the past, and this is the best version of them (whatever that means)
I'm liking the sound of those + the acoustic/alternate versions.
-
I'm pretty hyped about Album 8 so far.
Ironically, the pressure will come when they release "Pressure". If this "classic muse track" fails to deliver then a large chunk of the fan base may be turned off for good.
I like to look at it this way:
For all we know, we could have heard the album's version of Screenager, Feeling Good and Hyper Music, or Soldiers Poem, Starlight and Exo-Politics, with little indication that Citizen Erased, Take A Bow, New Born or MOTP are just around the corner.
-
Are we sure the 8 acoustic songs aren’t just acoustic versions of the album tracks?
That's exactly what they will be. Dreamy versions in Matt's words.
He also stated there will be the usual heavy rock in there. Could mean anything but Something Human is the softest side of the album.
-
Apparently Matt has just confirmed 11 songs on the album + 8 acoustic songs
-
Another member of the 'The Globalist is shit' fan club.
They should have just taken the riff section as it's own 2 minute tune and stuck it between Reapers and The Handler.
Follow The Yellow Brick Road sample could have blended nicely into the soundbite after "given you the code".
-
Latest Matt interview at Lollapalooza he says a new song maybe before Christmas or early next year.
When he first announced releasing singles first, I'm sure he said another one in Autumn and one before Christmas
Then again, with touring it's not unexpected that plans change.

Heard Sunburn in a mates back garden during a party. It was on a compilation CD and I loved it straight away.
Saw the video for Newborn on MTV not long after and that was me sold.
-
So Matt hates 'The Small Print'
I wonder if that will make people vote for it?
Interesting that he said they were half way through the next song. Maybe looking at an October/November release?
-
I'm guessing the gig will be around 18/20 songs?
Without wanting to sound too obvious
The band will pick from a selection of Dig Down, Starlight, Supermassive Black Hole, Mercy, Knights of Cydonia, Hysteria, Time is Running Out, Stockholm Syndrome, Madness, Dead Inside, Plug In Baby, Bliss
Will be intriguing to see how many songs from the last 3 albums get picked, if any.

You can't really suggest dropping the lead single for their new 'era'/album that they only just put out.
The full quote was
Replace Dig Down with pretty much any song to open the gig with.I don't mind the song and you are correct, they wouldn't not play their new single, it just shouldn't be as an opener.
I also agree that Madness should have no place on the same setlist, especially when they also play Resistance and Dead Inside. They are all pretty close in terms of song structure.
Imagine replacing The Globalist with Micro Cuts/Assassin/Hyper Music and Apocalypse Please/Ruled by Secrecy/Sunburn
Suddenly the set becomes good again.
-
It would only take small changes to drastically improve their sets.
Replace Dig Down with pretty much any song to open the gig with. NKOK replaced with a 'classics' spot where they play a different song every night (Sunburn, MM, Hyper Music, Assassin or whatever)
Drop 'The Globalist' forever and there is room for 2 more songs.
-
Not the type of song I want them to produce but I don't mind it.
From the riff onwards it's pretty good.

I can envisage a decent crowd reaction to the 'Dig Down' chorus chant whatchamacallit.
-
When did this band get so fucking boring? Seriously thinking of selling my Toronto ticket and just being done with this.
1 Song makes little difference to the potential setlist.
Video is alright, probs won't watch again but the song is a decent 5/10 job.
-
Actually enjoyed that
-
I'm interested in how they will record another song during this US Tour. Maybe the will aim to release a new song by the time they heading Leeds/Reading.
-
Sounds alright, kinda expecting it to build up like Dead Inside or Uprising
-
The middle heavy guitar part would have made a killer intro to a song slap bang in the middle of Reapers and The Handler.
I like the 3 different parts to this song but put them together + the lyrics and it knocks it down a couple of levels.
-
Great track
That guitar at 3.26 is beautiful - infact one of the best peices of music from their last 3 albums
-
I'm loving the bridge/solo on The Handler.
Even after many listens it still goes on a little longer than I anticipate but there is something about it I enjoy. I like the small changes in the dumming and even though the guitar remains the same, I still feel like it's building.
Could see Matt possibly messing around with it down the line during live shows.
-
Got really high hopes for Defector after the 'making of' video leak. Guitar sounds great and the layered vocals sounded interesting.
Even though half the album has been released, we still have an epic 10 minute track to come and 3 songs that are getting positive reviews.
Could very well be up there with BH&R or even surpass it.

Based on the most recent song descriptions, I'm really looking forward to it.
I like the whole 80's retro, sci-fi vibe they are going for. Much better than the bleakness of Drones that was shoved into our faces from every angle.
