Drones by far!
It has 2 songs I love (The Handler and DI) and I enjoy the odd listen to Repears but beyond a few fleeting moments in other songs, there is not much else to enjoy.
I hate the theme of the album, the artwork, it's just bleak.
T2L beats it by having Animals, Supremacy, Panic Station, Madness and a bigger collection of enjoyable moments throughout.
Both still way behind TR.
-
Never been a huge fan of Isolated System, I struggle to listen to it the whole way through.
Worst 5:
I Belong to You
Drones
Save Me
The Globalist
Revolt
-
Instead of playing shortened versions, I think I'd rather them just stick a couple of heavy riffs on the end of a few songs.
Newborn then Dead Star & Micro Cuts
Stockholm Syndrome then Reapers & Agitated
-
I'm liking the love being shown for Overture
Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure we got 15 second snippets of the Resistance songs before album release, then got 30 second versions a couple of days later? Either way, I've never been so drawn to a song based on a small clip as much as I have with Overture. When I heard the full song I was completely blown away.
Still no idea what Matt is singing tho but it sounds so good.

Their best 5 songs since BHAR:
Exogenesis: Overture
Animals
The Handler
Dead Inside
The Dark Side
-
There are not many faults on this album but with the band stripping away the extra fluff and prog-rock tendancies to make tight tracks, songs like Pressure, TC and Blockades (still love it) are possibly worse off.
-
There are so many layers and aspects of this song to enjoy.
I love how Matt delivers a different vocal tone for each chorus. The soft strings, the ominous synths and drums, beautiful piano and those wub wubs. Just a brilliant song and the acoustic version is equally great.
It's getting up there with Exo:Overture as my favourite slow muse song.
-
1. The Dark Side
2. Blockades
3. The Void
4. Algorithm
5. Propaganda
6. Break it to Me
7. Thought Contagion
8. Pressure
9. Get Up And Fight
10 Dig Down
11. Something Human
-
I actually don't mind this song. I think it's saved by being relatively short. It doesn't feel like I have to slog my way through it like some of the other efforts that go on way too long.
-
I'm already confident that I will be having repeat listens of TDS, The Void, Blockades and Algorithm 3 or 4 years down the line.
Those 4 collectively are stronger than my favourite four songs off any of the previous 3 albums.
-
Damn, Blockades video is just a montage of all the other videos. So is that it for videos?
The Void has yet to make an appearance and that song really does deserve a proper production.
-
All I know is that it's much better than Resistance, T2L and Drones.
-
Based on what Matt has said recently about having a brass section/backing singers/performers with them for their shows, they have a real opportunity to do something very different.
This album alone has given us some potentially epic show/encore openers.
Instead of the usual structure of 12/15 songs > encore 1 > encore 2 they could mix things up.
Use actors and songs like Isolated System and We Are The Universe to act as intervals between different sections each with it's own themes such as Brass, Acoustic, Big Hits, Electro etc.
We'd get longer setlists, more breaks for Matt without having to resort to New Kind of Kick
Something like:
Algorithm
The Dark Side
Map of the Problematique
Follow Me
Propaganda
Madness
Thought Contagion
Supermassive Black Hole
Break It To Me
Bliss
The Void
------------------- Drum & Bass Solo (with some crazy dystopian dance routine going on around them)
Citizen Erased
Newborn
Stockholm Syndrome
Psycho
Plug In Baby
Showbiz
------------------- Stage B Acoustic
Something Human
Dig Down (Gospel)
------------------- We Are The Universe
T2L: Unsustainable
Pressure
Panic Station
Knights of Cydonia
------------------- Isolated System
Blockades
Uprising
Starlight
Take A Bow
Plenty of opportunity for rotation in there too.
-
Great song but the guitar part and the repeat of the chorus at the end is fantastic.
This needs to be played live with Panic Station
-
I struggled with this song for the first couple of listens until this morning when I was getting the kids ready for school whilst I had this playing in the kitchen.
Found myself nodding away to the guitar and now it's very much stuck in my head!
-
Like TDS, it reminds me of so many different songs.
Hopefully it's played live as it's quite the monster and that solo is brilliant
-
After a couple of listens, TDS is still the best song (geniunely a top 10 muse track for me) but there are some bloody good songs on this album.
Highlights so far:
Blockade solo
Last minute of Propaganda
Algorithm Intro (needs to be the new gig opener)
I think TC struggles with having been out for so long already.
-
I'm loving the clip of The Void.
-
This song just does nothing for me. It's not bad, it's not good, it's just there.
It's flat and empty and I think the riffs are pretty poor.
-
I feel this album is going to be far greater than Drones. As much as I enjoyed the album when it came out, the whole Drones era was pretty bleak (setlists, stage set up, majority of the songs).
I can't wait for them to be fun again
-
Panic Station and Follow Me would probably go down well too although I'm not a fan of the latter
-
All I hope for is that at least 2 of the remaining songs are great. That will put the album on par with T2L and ahead of Drones.
-
Even though I like all the songs released so far, I keep telling myself that we may have just heard this albums versions of
Supermassive Black Hole
Map of the Problematique
Soldier's Poem
Exo-Politics
Invincible
And there is a Take A Bow, Knights of Cydonia and City of Delusion waiting for me.
-
Drones just doesn't work. I don't care if the vocals are impressive if it's not executed well. It's honestly hard to even listen to for me.
Completely agree. The Globalist followed by Drones is a terrible ending to the album.
Althought I like JKF, I'm glad this album has no Preludes or Drill Sergant's clogging up the track list.

The Dark Side
Loved that song from the first listen and it's top 20 quality, pushing top 10.
