I highly doubt this album will be an anti-vaxxer conspiracy theory in concept. While Bellamy has certainly been curious in exploring conspiracies in the past, he's:

    - Provided his doctor cousin with masks and other supplies to help her in the emergency room in treating COVID patients - https://www.spin.com/2020/03/muses-matt-bellamy-honors-doctor-cousin-battling-coronavirus/

    - He's regularly posted pictures of himself wearing a mask post-COVID - https://www.instagram.com/mattbellamy/?hl=en

I sadly know many anti-vaxxers and none of them are such stalwarts in promoting mask-wearing as Bellamy seems to be.

When reading the lyrics that have been provided for "Won't Stand Down," my first thought is it's in response to the Donald Trump presidency and January 6th Capitol insurrection. Bellamy has noted that the "clown" in "Dig Down" was in reference to Trump, and even later tweeted "clown" should have been termed "nazi c*nt" (
https://twitter.com/mattbellamy/status/897583876285112321). He also suggested Trump should have been impeached and removed after the January 6th attack (https://twitter.com/mattbellamy/status/1346955785327300608). So, it seems much more likely to me that "Won't Stand Down" would be in reference to fighting the right-wing's attempt at undermining democracy through misinformation, repetition, and call to action.

If Bellamy and Muse go anti-vaxxer with the coming album, I'll be highly disappointed, but I'm 99.999999% certain that's not going to be the case.

Very good analysis. Still, I’m quite sure we will see him tackle the anti-vaxx issue in one of the new songs.

Did anyone else hear that song Matt teased on his instagram... sounded heavy af.  Almost Architects sounding on the riffs

I swear, if I hadn’t already seen and listened to the snippets I honestly would’ve thought you were poorly trolling, loool!

    That said… HOLY MOTHERF**KING GOD

I mean, I should’ve expected them to go in a somewhat heavier and rockier direction among the several possibilities… but THIS HEAVY?? Totally not.
I’m going to listen to the whole thing before judging if I really like it or not, hahaha (I confess I have a soft spot for the poppier sound they managed to pull out in ST, minus one or two tracks you may guess).

Aleks von Korff (studio engineer) is currently mixing something for Muse in Dolby Atmos

Cristina Acevendo (stylist) has just started working on stuff for them

Customary Kirk ‘soon’ post, promptly (almost definitely on purpose) deleted

Oh, ok, nothing that I didn’t know already, lol. I thought there were new other pieces of info I just didn’t catch.

  4. There are mainly two directions I would really like them to go in at the moment:

    1) exploring the style of BITM a lot further and developping it into a sort of breakbeat/industrial rock/lo-fi hip hop/psychedelic/whatthefuckknows whole album, or most part of it at least;

    2) a whole piano-rock album in which they could bring back their early Romantique and symphonic influences but with the twist of integrating them into extremely heavy (with Chris' hyperdistorted bass and Dom's steady beats, I mean), hallucinating-sounding disco/dance-like tracks with proggish touches, sort of like Blockades.

  5. Very touching and heartfelt song, but I feel it could've been something even greater if Matt decided to work on it a little longer. I'm so glad to hear that his "Romantique pianist" self never died, though, contrary to what many keep on blathering.

EDIT: About that home-made lyric video... er... I find it a little creepy, sorry Matt. Good on him for trying, though.

It's good to be back, guys. I missed this forum so much!😊

I mean there’s not a lot in it, Drones is very good. But ST is *chef kiss*

Yep, it may not be a groundbreaking masterpiece, but after one year and a half I can positively say that, from my point of view, ST displays many encouraging signs about Matt's and the guys' inspiration. I know there are TC (which I'm falling a bit out of love with) and GUAF in it, but meh, with a "Side-A" run like Algorithm-SH, plus Blockades, The Void and the AR versions, I just can't complain. It always brings a smile to my face any time I listen to it and in some parts even makes me feel the... "spark (?)" I felt the first times I listened to Muse.

But it might be just me, I don't know.

It was 23-25 songs on the Unsus tour generally and tbf they hit 21 in Prague with a 10 minute medley on top of that. Probs only around 15 mins difference between the two shows all in all, which really ain’t bad when you consider that was obviously a physical peak for Matt in particular. Since then, there’s been an obvious need to tone down the strain of things. I do think they absolutely give 100%, organising a tour like this must be hard, I just naturally think it’s not to everyone’s taste with it going overboard into the theatre territory they’ve threatened for years. Unfortunately, more LPs tends to mean more essential stuff to pack in, tho I do think they try to throw us a bone. Ticket prices seem to be an industry-wide thing for acts their size as well sadly.

Invincible is one of the weirder (and sadder </3) ones, being a not-unknown single, not too difficult and one of Matt’s faves at the time. Tempted to make a sign for it on Saturday. Really hoping Bliss and Map are still yet to come, the European dates are still young I guess 🤞

I think it’s easy to forget from a fan’s perspective that sometimes an artist can be a bit selfish with their song-choice and pick one or two they have a soft spot for, even if it’s not hugely popular or active. Reckon UD is one of those given how they’ve talked about it and consistently brought it back over the years.

Still think all 3 of those ST songs will come in at some point, just hope it isn’t Defector-esque and literally right at the end. Hard to say swap out some of the interval stuff like Pray ‘cos I think it’s necessary for setting stuff up and giving Matt a breather.

That's the controversial thing: Matt says he now aims to choose past songs which can elicit a great reaction from the crowds other than being personally close to him. We know these choices are also mainly based in how popular those particular songs are and, well, to be honest, UD doesn't exactly register to me as "popular" or particularly crowd-rousing like Resistance or Madness.

I can see how its musical style manages to fit in this tour era, but other than that, if I take into account what I wrote up here, I can't come up with plausible explanations about its comeback.

Idk if this is just me but the guys really are refusing to leave their comfort zone rn. Remember all the comments of how Dom never wants to play Assassin or some other old(not deep cuts but even the well-known ones) songs because "they're not fun to play", then proceeds to force Resistance or UD in setlists when they're known mood and flow killers? Matt doesn't want to play anything that's not a megahit, new song or a setlist staple for 10+ years. Chris just doesn't give a fuck and plays what the two say and seems to be more interested in actually playing the songs well and accurately rather than fishing for reactions from the crowd, like, um, someone else in the band.

Do they not understand that they can literally play any song from the standard versions of their lps(minus like the backhalf of Showbiz) and get great reactions and the crowd into it? Like, I think I've said this before, but they need to take a page from bands like Metallica or Iron Maiden and just not give a shit and play some oddities while also throwing in the occasional "casual pleaser". And, yes, those two bands are still bigger than Muse, but not too much that they can't be compared.

This baffles me, too. I just don't understand how they can pick UD out of all of the great tracks they could rock out on stage, even the most recent ones.

Is it difficult that much for them to just integrate Blockades and The Void to the standard setlist in place of Mercy and UD itself, add in a Bliss/MOTP (which would both suite the current tour atmosphere) rotation slot instead of Pray, and let SH have its moment to shine?

EDIT: I know that I may not be in the right thread, but an optimal setlist for this tour could go like this:

    1. Algorithm AR

    2. Pressure

    3. Psycho

    4. Break It To Me

    5. Bliss/MOTP

    6. Uprising

    7. Propaganda

    8. PIB/The Small Print

    9. The Gallery (shortened)

    10. SMBH

    11. The Dark Side

    12. Blockades

    13. Unsustainable

    14. Thought Contagion

    15. Interlude + Hysteria

    16. Something Human

    17. Dig Down

    18. Houston Jam

    19. TIRO

    20. Madness

    21. Starlight

    22. STT Interstitial 2

    23. Algorithm

    24. Take a Bow

    25. Metal Medley

    26. KOC (without MWAH)

    27. The Void (with an SFX outro of some sort to end the gig)

First show in Perú of their career. I might try to go...

I want to see them performing in colourful ponchos to homage the country, like when they performed the gig in Ischgl while wearing Christmas sweaters.

  9. Just listened to the leak.

Uhhmm... I'm gonna tell you: I didn't find it as awesomely mindblowing as I thought it would be.

Between the preview on Matt's IG and the ST Tour shortened version it's like you've basically heard it all. The only difference is the Valiryan female voice reciting a prayer during the instrumental passages.

Still a very good track, though, and 1000x better then GUAF, lol (at least to me).

EDIT: Oh, and that final falsetto gives me quite the shivers. Well effing done, Bells.

    Oh, yessss.

    Sounds wonderful.

ST may have rekindled my faith in them at full strength, but after hearing this I'm starting to wonder if Matt shouldn't detach himself from Muse for a while and do his own thing musically speaking. I have a feeling it would do good both for him and the band, inspiration wise.

  11. Even though there still aren't any proper replies, I already want this thread to be awarded as Top Quality Topic of the Year.

That Little Animal, you're a fucking genius. 👌👌

  12. There's this Spanish female disco duo from the Seventies called Baccara, and it stunned me how a good number of their songs have a lot of melodical passages and progressions that give away a strong Muse vibe. What's even more disconcerting to me, it's that in many instances the two singers seemingly sound like two female Matts (without the falsetto) singing in a peculiar Spanish/French accent.

"Darling", for example, is a song that Muse could execute surprisingly well by tweaking it in their own style: the chorus, in particolar, seems to be written for them 40 years in advance! Try and listen to it on YT if you don't believe me.

Couldn't agree more with a lot of that. I can just about predict EVERY song these days because of the first guitar stab, the fuzz, the key of any intro noodling, the style of it, etc.

I've not been GENUINELY surprised at a day-to-day Muse gig for years now. Things like Shepherd's Bush and Download don't really count because we knew they were going to be one offs.

Cue me in at Milan gig in 2016 when he gave the first fuzz stab and I instinctively screamed "PLUG IN BABY!!!" like an idiot, lol.

  14. I'm looking forward to the day it will get released, so that I would be finally able to replace GUAF with it on my ST album playlist.

I also hope the "live" version is just a shortened one, because it would be a real pity to have such a good composition clocking at just about two minutes.

Of course. I suppose that's why I was expecting them to rotate a bit more in the beginning to get a feel and some practice in for all potential songs they'll be performing this tour, including planned rotations. The fact that they're not makes me wonder if they plan to mix it up at all. But I suppose time will tell. Like I a said, I'm totally cool with it, I never see more than one show per tour anyway.

That's... quite sad, though. The show production they've come up with is indeed phenomenal and the setlist they're seemingly going to stick with is solid, but they could really use a consistent bunch of rotations to spice things up a bit. Knowing that they probably aren't going to give some variety to the setlist for the rest of this leg (or even the European one!) makes me feel a little bad for anyone who purchased tickets for more than one evening.

Just heard the jam. So it’s a mini Futurism - US - Micro Cuts medley? Random-ish choices but ok, I’d have preferred something new and electronic though tbh, like an evolution of MK Jam or something.

That said, I don’t mind the medley stuff. For the most part, these are songs that’d never see the light of day, especially over there. A nod to them is better than nowt imo and it’s almost a natural evolution of them filling out the set with cover riffs anyway.

I'm not really sold on that, in fact. The transition between the riffs is very abrupt. But, well, it's always nice to hear more of the old material, even if it's just a snippet.

Harsh to say they’ve taken a bigger step backwards from Drones when we’ve got a longer show, less filler and one of the best productions they’ve ever done (and instantly one of the best going in the current climate) ‘cos of some dodgy flow and Matt going guitarless for one extra song.

So much this. The set is pretty balanced for being a "Greatest Hits" gig, and the production is... Wow, wow, WOW (I'm just able to say this, after seeing the first videos around the Web).

When I heard Pray, I was half expecting that it would be followed by the AR version of TDS because of their similar style, mood and key. That would've been dope to say the least.

I wonder why the Simulation Theory videos do not have more reproductions on YouTube. The vids are very good so I expected more viewers and more excitement for the album. I think there is no connection with teenagers, the main audience of YouTube and I don’t know why. ST album is really great, not one of the best, but it’s still great.

    That’s what I think what a pity

You know, I wouldn't necessarily see that as a bad thing, to be honest. There's no need for them to make stratospheric numbers or cater to a specific kind of audience to be great.

EDIT: That is, not more than they've already done, I mean.

  19. Finally, the Board is back!

My favourite DV tracks may be The Dark Side AR, Algorithm AR, Propaganda AV and The Void AV. But I think UCLA Pressure and SH in acoustic also have their charm:  the first one for being basically bonkers, the second one because it's so so nice to listen to.
