dead-duck Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 I typed this up quickly to refer people to when they ask what the sexy plane is The Sexy Plane by teh dux Once upon a time on the muse board, there was a tour.. Back during the sumer of '08, the band first made the musewire twitter (after doing a poll and asking us which form of social media we preferred - twitter was toward the bottom of the list, so, naturally, the band chose that ) which meant that a lot of fans, especially those from the board, suddenly had twitter. Shortly thereafter the band toured Mexico and South America and people were using twitter to send setlist updates. At one of the first shows, if not the first, they randomly whipped out Dead Star and Space Dementia, which of course got a lot of attention around here. With the surprises in the setlists and the addition of twitter giving us live updates, more and more people started hanging around while the gigs were ongoing to see what updates we could get and what was going on in nearly real time.
dead-duck Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 One common occurance would be that someone would come in and ask about the setlist before the show even started (timezones are haaaard), so people would say random things. Uno, Pink Ego Box, Jimmy Kane, Creep.... then one time I was typing out the words to jimmy kane and I typed in "sexy plaaaaane", so that would be coming up when people asked what was played. One night, can't remember anymore how it got started, we ended up making jokes about being on a plane, I made the original stewardom photoshop, and it turned into a silly joke wherein we were on a "sexy plane", piloted by jimmy kane, flying over the gig. It's pretty much continued and expanded somewhat since then. It's mainly just a silly jokey thing to keep us occupied when waiting for the gigs to finish, so it really has no deep meaning (takeoff when the show starts, turbulence when there is setlist beef, low visibility/fog when there are no updates, barf bags coming out for feeling good)
dead-duck Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 Last fall during the european tour, twitter added the ability to make lists, so fuesch started making the sexyplane list so that we could more easily follow the gigs. Before, we would follow just by doing a random searches and people would post what they found. There's also the in-flight game of Tweet Bingo, which originally came from the U2 tour last fall, when we noticed that there were a lot of common reactions. The stereotypical reactions continued through the other tours, and I think it was in the US tour in the spring that fuesch made the first official bingo card
dead-duck Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 So, i think that about sums it up. Darn this thing for only allowing 1000 characters per post!
dead-duck Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 ha! fuesch just found this, so you can also read this: http://board.muse.mu/showpost.php?p=6640262&postcount=185 I don't seem to have changed the story between then and now, which is good - i was worried that, like any good fable, it would get embellished as time went by
