  1. Doesnt he use double bass on Dead Inside?

Nope, that's easily single-kick pedal work. Just like Undisclosed Desires (the acoustic version), or Assassin.

And Dom with a double pedal - let alone MUSE with a double pedal for the drum kit - worries me slightly. :(

It's one of those things that will either really enhance the song and its heaviness or it'll just be overkill and just ruin it.

  2. It'll be a telling album in terms of the direction they want to go in. We'll see whether this album is just a one off chance to put out a rock album before they veer off into campy-oblivion, or whether they really want to refine their rock sound and experiment within a stricter boundary. I personally would like to see them experiment more with an album of 6 minute + proggy tracks to see if they have it in them to change up their comfort levels a bit with an interesting sound that has to be consistent over a longer span of time than the typical rock song.

    yep, completely agree with this.

  3. Live he's a bit sloppy and wild but in studio it's wonderful. Definitely piercing, wouldn't say awful myself though  definitely an acquired taste thing like Matt's voice. I actually found myself wildly attracted to Cedric's because I was introduced to Matt's first

Yeah, fair enough. Apologies for the emotional reaction - it's definitely an acquired taste for his high notes. His low-mid notes are definitely nice though.

  4.

Cedric Bixler-Zavala + Matt Bellamy falsettoing at the same time would be wicked. Or one doing a low voice and the other doing falsetto and switching between them. They're my two favorite rock singers

Eh, perhaps two male singers like these two, but anybody else and it'd just be weird. With a female, really cheesy.

Oh my gosh Cedric's high notes are awful and piercing!

  5. It's just classic Muse drop D chromatic riff.

OHHH I was thinking he was referring to the DI outro!!

Yeah, but the riff works! They've replicated their liveliness on an album, finally - or since OoS which played a lot with feedback, (is that what it's called?) and all.

  6. Only thing I'm not that excited about is the outro. It kicks ass, and even kinda fits the whole narrative thing thematically, but musically it just feels way too alien to the rest of the song. It must be a face melter live, though.

You mean the 4 bar outro? It resonants with the intro. What did you expect to happen there instead?

  7. A lot of your posts seem to contain a thin veil of condescension that suggest you think your opinion on certain matters is more valid than other people's, for one reason or another. I'm not the first to take issue with it and I can pretty much guarantee I wont be the last.

    *applauds*

  8. a song in 5/4 would be cool, loved the 5/4 parts of animals and it tends to be a fun time signature

Yes, 5/4 so is!! I'd love to see Muse pull a Dream Theater and have something like 7/16 and what not. Stuff like in The Dance of Eternity.

OR even the rhythmic changes in the Munich/Varia Jam where Dom went from straight to triplet beat, and then back again, drastically changing the feel of the music through rhythm.

  9. 4/8 actually i think :p but yeah while isolated system doesn't do much for me, hoodoo is an amazing song

wonder if they'll further experiment with polymeters on drones

The Resistance ended up being far better live - Uprising, USoE, MK, US, IBTY all sound so much better live. Agree that Resistance isn't great as a song btw, drags so much

Ah yeah, you're right on that!

Yeah, can't wait to hear rhythmic technicalities in Drones! What I'm talking about would include: polymeters, polyrhythms (not too fussed on these - more of an African or Tool thing anyway), time signature changes, odd time signatures.

  10. Tempo doesn't interest me, and I'm not doubting the faster drum and bass jams' potential to become good songs, but as they are, they just bore me. Much like for example drum solos, I'm not interested.

And Monty Jam actually makes me feel something.

Completely agree on all of that!

Even as a drummer, I find drum solos disinteresting as well.

And Monty Jam is really something - sure, Helsinki Jam might have some cool bass, but it doesn't make me feel anything as much as Monty Jam does.

  11. Omg, the strings are a slow, orchestral version of the Defector solo... Love it when stuff like this happens. Reprises and interconnections take albums to another level for me. :awesome:

YES agreed! :D It just adds to cohesiveness and atmosphere

  12. I guess I just don't mind literal lyrics, similar to how I really like the album cover and don't see why it being obvious makes it bad. It's the silly sounding stuff like "brainwashing our children to be mean" that makes me shake my head a bit.

whoa whoa whoa what? You say you're fine with the lyrics, (even if they are bad), then you say you didn't like the Supremacy line?
