  1. I'm back! After being banned for an unknown reason I wasn't told of. I was warned about speaking of leaks the first time, but the second time? I have no clue! Oh well, I won't be on a lot - albums out, the hype has dissipated.

    So album discussion thread?

I'll say that Drones has pushed up Origin of Symmetry to #1 with Black Holes & Revelations for my favourite Muse albums.

There are definitely some great rocking songs on the album, but for the most part, nothing revolutionary, unfortunately. It's a good album, but not an amazing one.

EDIT: It's the rawness of Matt's voice in pre-Absolution era that I've grown to appreciate more since Drones, as Matt's voice sounds very 'try-hard' in songs like DI, Psycho, Mercy, Revolt, Aftermath and the latter half of The Globalist.

  2. Listening to this again. Wow, it really builds up well! That tremolo guitar and Matt's notes - I don't care how cheesy it may be a song - it's really passionate and expressive and it does it REALLY well!

  3. Revolt actually sounds a lot like a Christian song. Like one of those typical upbeat, pop-rock sorta sounding songs with the vocal hooks and the chorus. Lyrics partially too.

    Interesting musical approach! :D

  4. If people like this sound, and the way Matt sings 'yellow', check out a band called MoeTar. They're like melodic prog pop rock/metal with clean vocal female singer.

  5. Kinda surprised so many people don't like the piano part towards the end. I agree the middle section could be longer but I think the vocals and especially the piano sound great. But to each his/her own.

    Agreed!

  6. Dead Inside - eh, mad bass and guitar solo.

Psycho - sick, just a tad long - lyrics funny.

Mercy - Yay! Each chorus was the same high dynamic though.

Reapers - This is it! ACDC, Dream Theater, RATM.

The Handler - The 3-piece Supremacy of Drones. Right up there with Reapers.

Defector - A bit below Reapers and the Handler - sick song with mad harmonies.

Revolt - I can take this. I love the melodic hooks and the tempo change into choruses.

Aftermath - Very delicate beautiful guitar, expressive vocals and music. Really nice.

The Globalist - YES. The middle section is somewhat disconnected from other parts though. Guitar solo and piano sections were highlights.

Overall, I'd rate the album, excluding JFK and Drones, a solid 8/10, perhaps 8.5.

Definitely a distinct step in the right direction!

    Now, for ranking!

Top songs in no particular order:

    Reapers

    The Handler

    Defector

    Good songs:

    Revolt

    Aftermath

    The Globalist

    DI

'You could have worked a bit more on it' songs:

    Psycho

    Mercy

Tracks I HAVEN'T heard yet in studio versions:

    [JFK]

    Drones

Side comments about songs and Musers: I somehow see Aftermath being compared to and ranked almost as low as NSC, particularly the ending. I personally really enjoyed it, but that's where I think this board will head.

  7. Damm, LP7 is just leaked, not even released, and people is startong to discuss LP8.

People can't be satisfied, they are like locust looking for a satisfaction they can't achieve.

How right you are! I don't get these people!

Aside from this comment, Imma comment 1 line on each song (that I've heard). :D

  8. Even lyrically there's a prelude and epilogue but no middle, which would have gone in the riff section.

I suppose that's where the instrumental fills in the story, replicating the end of the world.

  9. My god the JFK transition is just amazing, But then is let down by defector aha. I love listening to JFK haha, one of the heaviest tracks on the album

Do you happen to have a link/file of JFK (and Drones)?? PM please!!

  10. I'm loving it! I think tbh we all went in expecting what Matt told us "CE 2" and that it would be really crunchy for longer in that middle 3rd....However it's a different beast....It's a drawn out emotional what if song! Not going to do it for everyone and not what I expected but it's still very good with that knowledge in hand now...

Okay, I slept for 9 hours.

What did I miss? It really looks like the album's leaked/out!

Anyone wanna PM a link or a file for it?
