  1. Thats pretty cool he said "I haven't been able to say that in a while" or something to that effect. Makes me even more pumped for the album. After hearing 4 songs (2 studio version's, 4 Live Version's) so far I'd say its on track to contend for somewhere in there top 3 or 4 albums depending on how the other 5 or 6 songs are of course. But based on those first 4 songs this is the best i've felt about a new muse album since Absolution and thats saying something considering I was only disappointed by the 2nd law which I still liked to a degree.

  2. Really tough as all of Muse's opening songs are amazing. Although Dead Inside is one of my top 20 alltime fave muse songs as an opener its not quite as "unique" as the others. It sounds more like a 2nd song on an album but the fast start to it does make it somewhat unique to the idea of a Muse Opener to an album song because all of the others take a while to get going except maybe sunburn.

So i'm ranking these as openers and not as purely a favorite songs list:

    1. New Born

    2. Apocalypse Please

    3. Take a Bow (One of the weaker of the opener songs as a random song IMO above maybe only Uprising but as the opening song itself its really ballsy cause its such a WTF? kind of song so to that effect it really works)

    4. Supremacy

    5. Dead Inside

    6. Uprising

    7. Sunburn

  3. Gotta say I do love the track though, I just hope we get some more epic guitar songs as this song as a guitar heavy chorus but thats it in terms of guitar. Love all the falsetto in the chorus in this song to go along with Reapers Chorus lines.

And shout out to the blessed soul who recorded this with his/her phone that was likely stuffed somewhere the sun does not shine

    Rating's so far:

Dead Inside: 10/10 (not sure why some musers don't like this song, its dark lyrically, edgy musically and has a killer solo albeit a short one and some of the best vocals Matt has sung)

    Psycho: 9/10

    Reapers: 10/10

    Mercy: 9/10

I haven't loved the first barrage of songs off a New Muse album this much since probably Absolution or Black Holes, Drones is sounding pretty sweet to my ears!

  4. Definitely a very positive song in terms of sound, can't make out the lyrics except for the chorus bit where Matt sings "Show me mercy from the powers that be". The three things that stand out to me are the piano bits which I really like that are tied in with the great bass line and those two things are what drive the song, and Matt's vocals are really really good on this song. I'm sure his vocals will sound even better on the album. One thing to note though is that although the guitar doesn't dominate the song like it does in Psycho it still drives it as the chorus bit is rather heavy musically. But judging from the length of this song (4:05ish, give or take) I'm willing to bet that the outro to reapers they've played live thus far is on the album version as well because Reapers without the outro is about the same length, 4:10ish.

  5. LOVE this song, has some electronic elements to it sure, but I think there used very effectively. And it has some excellent guitar moments, bass is really powerful, drums incredibly piercing and Matt's vocals sound GREAT on this track. While its definitely a very pop kind of song I didn't expect a riff heavy song from the first OFFICIAL single from the album. Very happy with this song, and i'm very pumped for the rest of the album as after hearing 3 songs including the live version of reapers this is already the best 3 song introduction to an album we've had for Muse in quite a while.

Very exciting time to be a MUSE fan.

  6. What has origin of symmetry got to do with anything? I swear it's mentioned more often by ultra-defensive fanboys than the so-called "hardcore Musers who want OoS pt.2".

Also the longer the solo the lower the chances I enjoy it, personally. The falsetto sounds awful. The sections of the song don't fit with one another. Verses, bridge and outro are ok on their own.

My point being that nothing since Black Holes and Revelations has made Musers happy for the most part, (rare exceptions being Supremacy and maybe Exogenesis) look if you or any other Muser don't like Psycho I get that. I really do, cause it has horrible lyrics and its based around a riff thats 16 years old. And honestly at the end of the day if you just simply think as you say "the falsetto sounds awful" in Reapers I'm cool with that too. But for my money they can write this kind of song (reapers) all day long. I mean isn't it better than at least half there catalog? that's probably where i'd put it, some where in the top third or at least top half and thats without hearing the studio version, which could change my opinion.

But bottom line to each his/her own.

  7. LOVE the new song, what the hell is everyone complaining about? Great use of the falsetto, amazing if somewhat improvised guitar solo THATS A FREAKIN MINTUE+ LONG, sweet riff, excellent outro (granted that may or may not be apart of the finished studio version) and on top of that I don't think Chris' Bass has sounded this good on new songs (this song and Psycho) since the days of Absolution.

So my question to you so called "hardcore Musers" would be if this song doesn't do it for you (keep in mind rough/first live version) then what EXACTLY do you want a NEW muse song to sound like?

I mean I just feel if you don't at the very least think this song is decent then the only conclusion that I think Muse could come to to make some of the Hardcore Musers happy would be to re-record Origin of Symmetry and name it something different.

  8. That new song sounds amazing, can't wait to hear the studio version. The solo is incredible and i'm sure it will sound better on the album as some of that could be improve, especially in the first half. LOVED his falsetto in the chorus bits!! Very different from his usual falsetto, but great.
