  1. I was there for the Dallas gig last night and it was phenomenal. Yes no opening act, no drones and they were late but the performance was def better than Houston seeing as they didn't actually have any instrument malfunctions. Matt's voice sounded SOOOO good live in Dallas. There were a few songs though where his voice got muffled so they need to work on the sound levels for his vocals in some spots. Totally made my year that they played CE!!! Never thought they'd play that in my home town. The Globalist was a standout for me as was Revolt surprisingly. Even though the crowds here in America suck (except for about 10% of each gig who are awesome) most of the people around me LOVED the new songs. Especially Psycho/Reapers and The Handler. Loved the stage. Its different being in the middle as it spreads the crowd out more which wouldn't be a problem in most places but here in America to many people like to stand and stare and do nothing as they listen to the music. Nothing wrong with that but just do it up in the stands. But I totally loved the stage setup mainly because the band is a lot closer to everybody and there more easily seen. Only thing regarding the stage that i'm not so sure about were the big video sheet things. Really cool during the Handler and The Globalist but other times kind of weak.

The setlist was great in one part (new songs totally rocked, CE blew me away) and totally average in another (Madness, Uprising, UD, Starlight, SMBH etc.) I didn't expect rarities in Dallas but I did expect them to play some more prog numbers with the new songs like New Born, B&H, Unnatural Selection etc. But overall the concert was the best i've ever been too and it definitely beat Muse's last two concerts here despite all of the issues. Just build the stage on time, fix some of the sound levels and get the drones working and I truly feel that this tour will go down as the best of Muse's career thus far. Hopefully they get it all in order cause they've never sounded better live as a band.

  2. The show last night in Dallas totally blew me away. 3rd time seeing muse and while I do agree with others that the sound levels were a bit off on some of Matt's vocals I thought his guitar sounded great on mostly every song except maybe the slide guitar part of the globalist. During Psycho/Reapers/CE his guitar was PHENOMENAL! But either way its early in the NA tour. But moment of the night has to go to the moment Matt got handed the Citizen Erased guitar. I thought I recognized it but I wasn't sure at first. CANNOT believe they played that song in my home town of Dallas, TX. I can now die a happy happy man. :mussing:

And besides the slide guitar not being audible one of the other highlights of the show for me was The Globalist. His piano sounded great during the last part where I thought it sounded a little weak/muffled during feeling good. Also (don't shoot me) I thought Revolt was a truly awesome song live. Say what you want about the pre-chorus but i'll hear that song any night. I just hope the eventually rotate it out with Defector. And lastly the new songs got a really good reception in my section (207). The opening salvo of Psycho/Reapers was truly powerful.

Overall this was by far the best concert i've ever been too and beats the last two tours of Muse concerts in Dallas/FW for me. Yes it sucked no opening act, no drones and they ran late but the stage design being in the middle of the venue made MUSE that much more of a formidable live act as it was visually stunning. Beats any stage design they've had (as much as I loved the Resistance tour's towers this was better/more engaging). And Matt moved around a lot!

  3. Well it's a ridiculous statement, so duh. You literally said "anyone this side of Mozart in modern music to play that on the piano", so to act all condescending like it should have been obvious you meant a rock singer in a band who's preferably still alive is a bit silly.

At the end of the day its all a matter of opinion so I'm just going to respectfully disagree. Elton's great, Freddie's phenomenal I just prefer the way Matt plays which is why I think he's better. So many of Elton's Piano songs are great but just as many are boring and uninspired. Freddie only has 6 or 7 great piano songs that I can think of but there all great haha. If I was a classically trained pianist perhaps i'd have a different perspective but alas I do not.

  4. "I dare anyone this side of Mozart in modern music to play that on the piano"

    "I meant lead singers"

"I meant lead singers who are still alive...and in a band."

Basically you just want to believe that Matt is the best at something. I mean...specifying that the pianist has to be a singer AND be in a band to qualify is just so pointless

What's next, he has to be short and have a chinbeard?

Lead Singer in a rock band, pretty simple to follow. Still only Freddie above him that I can think of, Suppose I should have been that specific in my first post but Christ on a bike. Took me apart like I'm running for president

  5. Freddie Mercury. Don't believe me? Listen to "The March Of The Black Queen," "The Fairy Feller's Master Stroke," "Seven Seas Of Rhye," "Love Of My Life," "Death On Two Legs (Dedicated To...)," "Seaside Rendezvous," "Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon," "My Melancholy Blues," "You Take My Breath Away," "You And I," "The Millionaire Waltz," "Teo Torriate (Let Us Cling Together)," "Nevermore," "Bohemian Rhapsody" [obviously], "Get Down, Make Love," "We Are The Champions," "Don't Stop Me Now," "It's A Hard Life," and the rest of Queen's discography while you're at it. Freddie is quite possibly the most underrated rock pianist of all time.

And if you throw rock ACTS into the mix, as in including bands and solo artists, I'll also mention Billy Joel and Elton John, the essentials.

All three of these dudes blow Matt out of the water even on Matt's best days. Not to say Matt isn't a better pianist than most rock singers, but even if he were as good as Freddie, Billy, and Elton, he's not yet proved it.

EDIT: I think I'd even argue Matt's a better guitarist and a better singer than he is a pianist (not that that matters, but it's just a related opinion). He certainly seems to care more about singing and playing guitar than playing piano.

As a 24 year old muse fan allow me to be more specific, Matthew James Bellamy is the best pianist in a rock band that's currently still relevant and not a solo artist. I'd agree Freddie might be better and I would also agree that Eltons better but one of those blokes is dead and has been for a while and the other dude while still great is a solo artist. Never mind Billie Joel. So while its all a matter of opinion I stand by my original statement. And FYI I'm a Freddie and Elton fan too.

  6.

The thing that gets me is that Guiding Light is ranked above Assassin, Dead Star and Hyper Chondria Music. At least the top 10 is reasonable.

Yeah I'd probably rank Assassin just higher now that I think about it but alas I do have a major love for both Guiding Light and Revolt. I just think there awesome sounding albeit very cheesy. And I should rank Big Freeze and Liquid state lower. Thats the problem though  I feel like it changes all the time! Oh well I tried.

  8. Part 1 and Part 2 would have gone well as seperate songs, assuming they were longer (especially the heavy bit)

Probably but I prefer the "Journey songs". Suppose they could always do a 20 minute song just to make everybody happy but at that point like you said they might as well split the different parts into different songs. But I like the The Globalist as it is, one giant journey of a song.

  9. The first half usually has the big hit songs and maybe an intriguing opening song. One would think thats where the best songs are but for Muse the 2nd half of there albums are better for me. My proof: Hate This and I'll Love you, Citizen Erased (technically the middle song but it changes the course of the album so it falls into the 2nd half for me), Micro Cuts, Dark Shines, Megalomania, Blackout, Butterflies and Hurricanes, Ruled By Secrecy, Assassin, Hoodoo, Knights of Cydonia, MK Ultra, Exogenesis (1,2,3) Aftermath, The Globalist.

I don't think its a wide gap though. But for my money 75% of there BEST songs come in the 2nd half of there albums, the heavy hitters so to speak. The hits are towards the front but the classics are generally towards the back.

Showbiz: 1st Half by a mile

Origin: 2nd Half by a whisker

    Absolution: 2nd Half

Black Holes: Tossup but edge goes to 2nd Half

The Resistance: 2nd Half by a lightyear

The 2nd Law: 1st Half by a lightyear x Infinity

Drones: Complete Tossup, probably edge to the 1st half cause of the 1-2 combo of Reapers/Handler

So 4 albums for the 2nd half, 3 for the 1st half.

  10. So far its pretty obvious the 30-50% of people in the Music reviewing business who hate/dislike Muse still hate/dislike Muse but the other 50-70% seem to like the album more than both TR and T2L by a pretty solid majority. And some even like it better than BH&R.

So I don't think there's any question that Drones so far has gotten much better reviews than The 2nd Law, and a little better than The Resistance. Muse is just one of those bands that people seem to either love or hate more often than not and you can't really judge the hate group because that reviewing blocking usually makes up about the same percentage of overall reviewers each album.

  11.

Just combined the vocal track from the album of this song with the organ track a soundcloud user created. Hopefully nobody asks for it to be taken down but its quite awesome so I suggest anybody that likes this song to download it while its still up!

  12. After a solid week+ of listening to this I still think its one of there 4 or 5 best songs ever. Its foots the bill for my favorite type of song, a Journey song. Its take me "there" every time I listen to it. Just like everybody else I do wish the middle section was a minute or so longer but I absolutely LOVE the last 4min piano section. Some truly awesome vocals by Matt on this and the Piano!! :facemelt::facemelt::facemelt:

So all in all 9.9/10, would be perfect with another minute of going nuts with that solo bit towards the end of the middle section. But I can more than live with what it is, a Masterpiece.

  13. Now that I know how to make spoiler tags, I will leave my modified review in here. I'm curious to see how my opinion of the album will change as I keep listening to it...

I will post my old review, and when I changed a score, I will note it, so, here we go again!

-Dead Inside 9/10. I loved it when it came out. The way Matt delivers the vocals is amazing in this one, and there are too much emotion in that second half. It's like a better Madness.

-Drill Sergeant/Psycho 7/10. I don't like it at first, but it grew on me. It has a nice riff and it's a fun song. It will be a beast live. Very repetitive.

-Mercy 6.5/10: the classic piano Muse song, à la Starlight. But I enjoy this more, it's heavier and the pre-chorus is cool. But it hasn't got much more.

-Reapers 9.5/10: It was the studio version which sold me on this. I enjoy the chorus, the "robotic" setting, like it's a modern warfare, and that magnificent outro

    - The Handler 10/10: Holy shit, one of the best tracks I've heard in years. It's dark, it's heavy, and that bridge will be a "lose our heads" moment in their gigs. Awesome!

    - JFK + Defector: 8.5/10: Great riff, I must admit that I've always enjoyed the queenisms in Muse discography, so I don't mind about the vocals. Nice solo, I like its tone.

    - Revolt: 7.5/10 (Previously 6.5/10): Okey, this song has grown on me. It's a guilty pleasure. Listening to it makes me happy, and there aren't a lot of Muse songs which achieve that (in fact, I can't think of anyone)

    - Aftermath: 6.5/10 (Previously 7.5/10). On the contrary, I dislike more Aftermath. I love the song the first 3 minutes, but the ending... They could keep the same atmosphere of the beginning and not going overly-cheesy on the ending, and it would be a nice song. But, like some people said, it seems like a Christian rock track...

    - The Globalist + Drones: 9.5/10 (Previously 7/10, 3.5/10). I don't know how could I rate this amazing 13 minutes track (I'd keep TG and Drones together) so... low. I guess it was the dissapointment of not hearing CE 2.0. When that feeling dissapeared, I listened to it properly and, holy shit, I was amazed. The vocals in the piano part are wonderful, and Drones it's a nice and ghostly ending to an amazing album. I guess that hearing it in the context of the album helped a lot.

So, average... 8,2 (Previously 7,5). It has definitely grow on me a lot, thanks to my new appreciation of the album closer. And it has reach the third position on my personal Muse favourite albums: BH&R > OoS > Drones = Abso > The Resistance > Showbiz > T2L.

Glad to hear you really like The Globalist now! My very first reaction to it was the same as yours but once I knew what to expect when I played the song (not CE 2.0) I instantly thought it was a masterpiece. Kudos Muse, Kudos.

  14. Albums getting better and better for me, its right in line with Absolution as my favorite Muse album ever. Its just flows so well as an album. I never expected The globalist to be Citizen Erased part II which is probably why I think its one of there 5 or 6 best songs ever when you consider the Drones a cappella bit as part of the song especially. Time will tell but for now I'm a very happy Muse fan!
