  1. I don't really care the genre, the only thing I'm really looking for in the album is originality, and while I was a bit split on that Drones clip posted today, it's way too early to judge. Going more classic-rock inherently brings along with it some challenge when it comes to making something original, but whatever the direction I'll still be excited, because I know there's going to be at least a song or two on the album I'm going to absolutely adore, and that's worth the hype for me. On T2L, that was Explorers.

  2. Lel, I need to make more covers so I'm not this random ghost lurking around the forum posting a few times a year.

    Anyway, Karma Police, piano/voice:

    cWGuR8oURHw

I decided to mic the piano with two SM57s, it actually turned warm and clear, I'm pleased! Ignore the squeak, that's the sustain pedal. I'm getting this feller tuned shortly.

  3. I've run into this strange problem with my voice where after I got sick, for a week and a half now I've had absolutely no falsetto, it's as if something is ingrained in my throat. I tried singing for the first time since, and surprisingly, my full voice is all there (but a bit weaker than normal), but there's still literally zero falsetto - I can't even make a squeak. Anyway, I tried out doing a little sketch of the second verse (?) of Escape on piano and voice:

Crits on the vocals if possible? Aside from being totally unable to get the rasp on the second 'mad', there's something I'm not fond of, though I can't figure out what. My ears are pretty wasted from the illness as well, and my self-assessment is at about a 1/10 right now.

  4. Working on a full cover of Radiohead's Dollars and Cents:

Does this clip sound right? I really can't tell anymore. Lel, I cringe when I listen to myself try to imitate Yorke.

I actually used a real bass here, which is unusual, as I'm usually pretty keen on my MIDI basses.

  5. Hi,

    here's a cover of Agitated :

    Hope you'll enjoy it :D

Hahah, that's literally perfect! You have one tight virtual band, are you guys planning on meeting up at some point?

My online friend and I for the first time decided to do a quick cover together, so we did Unintended. He's on guitar, I'm singing:

    [YT]kT89Jk5I_Rs[/YT]

Yes, I have done two Unintended covers before, but they were each two years apart. This one here was done in just one take, and in light of that, I think it turned out pretty well.

Apologies for the noise, he doesn't have a microphone aside from his camera. It was sort of a spontaneous decision to do the cover, so for next time he'll probably get an SM57 or something.

  6. I'm not sure I understood what you meant there, can you elaborate? Sorry about that. I'll list explanations for what I think you might have possibly meant:

    - If by 'lines' you mean lyrics, then I'm fairly sure those are the correct ones, as that's how they appear inside the booklet of my album case.

    - If by 'lines' you meant the melody, I added the jump-up on the octave by mistake, but I thought it turned out well, so I kept it.

    - If you meant that you believe covers should be as close to the original as possible, that's what I was trying to do here for the most part.

    - If the comment was usilising sarcasm, then I'll explain that the whole intention of my latest covers is to imitate the original as closely as I can.

  7. The whole Resistance album. Hadn't listened to it since 2nd Law came out. Love the bass lines on that album.
This just happened to me actually. Even though the album is only from 2009, for some reason it evokes this feeling of nostalgia for me. Maybe it's the fact that the whole album has this dreamy, very classic 'animated' sound to it.

Also, I used to not like Dead Star at all. Now I love it.

  8. Awesome! I love the sound of the 8-bit dubstep drop in the second and third choruses here.

If I have one bit of criticism though, it's that I don't think you should directly replicate the length of time Matt holds his voice in the synth. It sounds like it's actually cutting out 'by mistake' often; probably keep them held down for longer.

Anyway, I was experimenting with this... from 1 to 5 AM, a miniature 16-bar cover of Unsustainable, the part directly after the first chorus:

    [/soundcloud]

(Here's a direct link, since for some reason the embedded version isn't showing up over here):

This is only an experiment, so it isn't perfect yet or anything at all, but I'm enjoying the result so far.

    EDIT:

Through the advice of Sippe, I decided to add some vocals:

    [/soundcloud]

  9. Well, it could be... I just know you for .. more instrumental (or with vocals) covers :chuckle:
I experiment now and then. ;) Besides, would you not consider this an instrumental cover?

But hey, good to hear someone knows me for something.

    Hello everyone :)

Here's my cover of Endlessly, please subscribe and enjoy it!!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeYCDs1dDt0#]

I adore your vibrato. Very nice cover, though if I must say one thing, it sounds the slightest bit too robotic. Just a bit though, keep it up!
  10. Hey, I don't think this has been done yet so here you go:

    GzrgVhaL-zY

My friend Gordon and I worked on this for hours over the span of two nights last week. He did most of the wiring and programming as I created the six-part MIDI cover of Unsustainable for us to play here. You can download the MIDI itself here if you like: http://www.mediafire.com/?5wgu66a4lvzdx6d

If you think the MIDI sounds obnoxious, that's because it's designed for floppy drives, where the lower notes are FAR louder than the higher ones, and thus compensation is required. Also, the note range on floppies appears to be C0 to B3; any higher and they're likely to catch fire.

    The microphones being used are:

    2x MD30

    SM58

    SM57

    AGK C214 (condenser)

  11. I've been working on a little project lately - I'm planning to do complete, detailed video covers of every single Muse song in chronological order. I've been progressively working on Sunburn, Muscle Museum and Fillip over the last two weeks, and I'll probably end up posting them one per week after I'm finished the entire album.

For now, just because I'll be on vacation for a week or so tomorrow, I'll post what I've got of Sunburn so far in audio format

    [soundcloud]

    [/soundcloud]

The mix isn't finished, but any critique would be welcomed if possible.

  12. Here is my guitar cover of Survival! Hope you like it!

    0Suu36L2T2U

Whoa, I think it's just the angle of the camera lens, but that makes it look like your guitar neck is curved!

Alright, like I said I would do a week or two ago, here's my full cover of Keane's 'Bend & Break':

    [soundcloud]http://soundcloud.com/rayfan9876-absolution/keane-bend-break-full-cover[/soundcloud]

All parts and mixing/producing by me blablablah made in Logic Pro blablah.

I didn't upload it to YouTube because, even though the song is in E, I decided to put it in F just because I could. I can hit the high Bb (originally A), just not as well as I'd like, and I usually only put my best stuff on YouTube. I wanted to push myself, even though those higher notes are a bit shaky - ahah, lets just say I'm being Keane on their early live performances. I'm not referring to the first chorus though, since I did that in falsetto. The rest of the song is normal.

I also apologise, the vocals I also couldn't get fitting in the mix properly, so they might 'stand out,' or so to say. The instrumental mix though I think is my best yet (look at that sexy tight waveform)!

    EDIT:

WHAT THE FUCK did Soundcloud do to my high frequencies? They sound all garbled and they lost their sacred glossiness. Bah. If you want to hear the proper mix, you can download a 320kbs version here, instead of the dreaded 128kbs Soundcloud version: http://www.mediafire.com/?94jlk2dqosg4kos

  13. The cover was good, but I think you need to work on your technique a bit on the guitar. You're amazing at piano/keyboard though.

It was good, not your best!

Oh and I thought the intro at the start was a little tacky...

This is his YouTube channel, so I had nothing to do with the intro. I personally try to avoid intros all together.

And yes, I definitely have to work on my guitar. I've only been playing for a year or so, and I haven't exactly been a solid practiser.

By myself again, I'm working on a cover of Keane's Bend & Break. Should have it up in the next few days.
