  1. If Muse really wanted to combat touts, they would make these paperless/will call/no name change etc. Instead, there are no restrictions on these tickets and, in fact, Stubhub was getting flooded with listings before these even went on sale.

Can't speak for the other stops, but in NY State there's a law that you can't have paperless and that tickets need to be able to be re-sold/transferrred..

  2. are they really going to keep the club night on? that would mean doors for that at 10pm, limiting muse time and meaning they could go on early. really hope this isn't the case.

I've been to shows there where there was overlap with club night and other bands going on in the studio space, didn't affect either.

  3. i've still yet to attend a legit concert without an opening act, even when none was mentioned. i would expect someone to open.

it looks like the "club night" which is every friday night in the grand ballroom with doors at 10pm no longer has tickets available, so I am assuming they have canceled it for the Friday that muse will be there. if this is the case, i could imagine a very normal stage time of 9-9:30pm for muse.

i am hoping this is correct as I will be picking up my friend (and ticket holder) from JFK at 5pm.

I went to a theater show with The Killers at the start of their last cycle - also one of these special kinda of smaller pre-release/release shows - and they didn't have an opener. Also Madonna and Springsteen in recent years have had no openers, and it's looking like U2 may not have any on their upcoming dates (well the tour starts in two weeks and no one has been announced).

  4. I'm going to guess based on other will call experiences.

I'm pretty sure the will call will be separate from the lineup, so I suppose you will arrive at the venue, go to the willcall, print your tickets and wait in line.

If you get there at 6:30 i'm sure it's fine but there might be a lineup at the willcall

Actually, my experience with this type of show is that it is not separate - everyone waits in line, goes up to the table, shows ID, gets ticket (which is really just a technicality only because NY State bars paperless shows), probably gets it scanned right there (or maybe not scanned at all), and goes right in. Otherwise, it makes it easier for the scalpers this is trying to prevent.

  5. If it's all will-call, with ID and credit card required, then how are some of the commenters on this article (and don't hate Brooklyn Vegan, it's a great resource) planning to make the "easy peasy" money they're bragging about?

BrooklynVegan itself is a great site, but the comments are 90% troll-city, don't pay attention to them.

  6. Yea I have been through situations for paperless where they swipe the card and it basically just looks up the number in the system and counts that as your tickets.

When you go to will call, they ask for you CC and ID and just compare to what is on record before handing over the tickets. They may do a mish/mash of this so that people can't show up get their tickets and then sell them.

It's supposed to be immediate entry to prevent this. I've been to a Radiohead show where it was the same deal and there was no stepping back out once they handed you the ticket.

  7. maybe it is a better site, but the demand for brandon flowers is absolutely tiny compared to the demand for muse tickets. it's not the killers playing a small venue.

I would agree with this - when Brandon did a similar small pre-album show at Webster Hall on short-ish notice in March, the tix were through Ticketweb and were easy as pie to get. It ultimately sold out but the show was very under the radar for a few days.

  8. Is Port Authority the greyhound bus terminal?

Either way, my point is that the next bus is at 8:30.

So Either I rush the fuck out after it ends, or I party with some people...

Yep, Greyhound leaves from the Port Authority. If you are out the door at 11 (which is very likely) then you should be able to get back in time (take the N or R train at Union Square to get there, NOT the 4, 5, 6 trains). There is usually a bottleneck getting out of the place (Webster Hall), so if they hit the encore break and it is getting a little close to time, you may want to move to the back for an easy out.

    Or get a taxi. :)

  9. Do they really check IDs at Webster hall though? I've been there a bunch of times and my ID gets checked but I'm usually waiting for a wristband to drink. My niece is going to try to get tickets tomorrow but she's 17 just wondering if she will even be able to get in.

No matter what show, my ID gets checked at Webster (and I am very obviously well over 21).

  10. yes, thank you to whomever posted that code!!!

Since I'm driving into NYC, I've never been to Webster Hall before. What is the parking situation like over there? And should I plan to be in line the morning of the show to get a decent spot?

Any and all advice is very much appreciated!

Parking will be bad - prepare to pay a good amount ($40-ish if spending the whole day), forget the street. There are other options by parking in another borough or NJ, but you really have to know what you are doing.

  11. I wonder when we'll be able to pick up our tickets from Will Call. Some venues, if you're lucky and ask nicely, will let you get them a day or two before the actual show. Which is obviously ideal as you don't have to wait on a massive line on show day.

It is one of those "immediate entry" shows, so you won't be able to get them from Will Call beforehand - you show your ID on entry, they will hand you a ticket (a technicality since paperless is illegal in NYC) and you will have to go right in.

  12. i understand the frustration of the ticket system not working properly, but if this was a random lottery, it is relatively fair.

let's say they allocated 1/3rd of the tickets to the presale. what happens when you try and sell 500 tickets to 10,000 people who want them? 9500 really pissed off people who think it's all rigged.

(arbitrary numbers to represent that demand is greater than supply here)

Oh I do get that demand far exceeds supply, but IF it was a random lottery with the codes (and it probably wasn't) then they should state that up front before the pre-sale starts.
