I've been chasing this tone for the best part of the last 17 years, and during Lockdown, I managed to spend some time experimenting with it. This cover is a mimic of the studio recording. However, the same technique could be applied to live performances, providing you have the right equipment. Full disclosure, the video is mimed to my own backing track.
