  1. Ok so I listened to the song today and I I've changed my mind; the song is not so bad, it's very in your face and I like the guitar. The only thing that is bothering me are the overdone backing vocals.

  2. It's got the same playful vibe Muse had pre-Showbiz and also during Showbiz (Fillip, Sober, Overdue, etc).

It's just written and recorded in a far less juvenile and far more mature manner. It sounds far more like Muse rediscovering their past than anything else I've heard from them.

If this had been on Showbiz, or a Showbiz b-side, no-one would have batted an eyelid.

I don't think that if that song had been on Showbiz I would have liked it.

Also I don't see the maturity really shine in the song...

  3. The Defector - Revolt connection is...non-existent? That's the great disjunction point of the album, like it suddenly stops being heavy and becomes poppy

Yeah, I don't mind The Defector, it's just not my style, but my god Revolt? it's so cringeworthy

  4. I think this is the biggest problem of this album and this band lately. I couldn't help thinking this listening to the whole second part of the album. Up to JFK it is great. Then it just goes everywhere and gets nowhere. Whatever. I am just disappointed because the first part of the album showed that they are still capable of making great MUSE music. And then it's like the second part of the album they took the Queen-shaped mushrooms or LSD and went ape-shit again. Enough already. Can't they just focus?

I guess they were trying to make a cohesive album without it being to repetitive... but i don't find it cohesive at all after JFK...

  5. There's a faster version of Revolt they recorded but they dropped the speed to make it more jolly, I guess!

For me the speed is not the problem, i find the song so cheesy, especially that "you can revolt" part... oh my god :D

I really like the melody of JFK though, but the way it was played on Defector not so much...

  6. No I agree with you, I was just saying that as a long term fan I think it's a nice direction towards what I loved about Muse in the first place, whether it's intentional or not :)

    Oh ok I understand.

  7. I would argue that by pleasing the long term fans they're probably pleasing themselves, because we were into the music they originally created and perhaps they moved away from this to create music more suited to the popular market(?). so pleasing the long term fans can't be all that bad :p

But what tells you that The Handler was a song written to please long term fans?

Maybe it's just them who wanted to go that route?

  8. Let's hope they never become a band who make music to please fans.

Yes, I totally agree. Even though I hate everything Muse have done post abso, I'm convinced artists/bands should be free to do whatever the hell they wanna do.

  9. Are we all talking about the same solo? The repeated sound that goes on for about one minute with nothing else involved? How am I the only one not enjoying that part? I can see myself skipping that part in the future. Riff is my favourite part. Love the first half of the song to bits.

It's so good why would you want some change! :D

  10. The Handler and Reapers are the first Muse songs to replicate the feeling I had when i first listened to them, coming up to 10 years ago now.

    So relieved they're delivering

Same for me except it was 14 years ago!

  11. koc? assasin? exo-politics? hoddoo? tab? mk? US?

If you don't like them you blow my understanding of the world :D

    anyway hyped for drones now

    *glares into mods direction*

Yeah I mean I discovered Muse with Oos, and I think that after Abso they lacked seriousness in their songs.

The first time I heard the Handler I immediately had goosebumps.

    It's just an opinion.
