  1. Guys, I think I may have figured a way they could play this live, cutting out the ending piano section (as a result of seeing the negative fan reaction).

The Globalist (until 6:35) STRAIGHT INTO Citizen Erased

I have a sneaky suspicion the band feels a sense of regret with this one. Awesome heroic beginning. Dat riff. DAT FUCKING TREMOLO SECTION. Then, an awkward piano section that:

    A) transitions poorly from the heavy section

    B) negates the drama and power of the section preceding it

    C) quite frankly, is one of the weakest moments of the album

Dom and Chris are going to be bored out of their minds when they play the piano bit live, night after night. Even Matt will eventually lose heart. Cut the piano bit out completely. Replace it with something that actually extends the thunderous heavy section. Since The Globalist uses a drop-A tuning, this can be followed by either CE, Supremacy, or a random jam in drop-A. Since everyone and their grandmother clamours for CE, why not give the fans what we want? The best parts of The Globalist AND Citizen Erased?

Plus, Matt did say that they are going to be playing Citizen Erased and The Globalist. But, Matt being Matt, that could be wishful thinking

so just Citizen Erased and none of the Globalist?

  2. It's hard to believe that the same band who produced Reapers & the Handler also produced Revolt & Aftermath.

Dead Inside - 6/10. It's a decent pop song, but it's not one I imagine I'll go back and listen to on a regular basis.

Psycho - 7/10. I like it, but it doesn't really go anywhere and the lyrics are awful, even within the context of the album.

Mercy - 6/10. Decent pop song, as with Dead Inside, but it's not one I'll go back and revisit in the future. Comparing it to Starlight is pretty generous.

Reapers & the Handler - 9/10. The absolute best of Muse. At heart they're an exceptional rock band, and these two are as good as anything since Black Holes. The undoubted highlights of the album.

Defector - 6/10. Wasted potential here. Love the guitar on this track, but the unnecessary over the top, Queen-esque vocals spoil it. Hopefully it'll sound better live.

Revolt & Aftermath - 3/10. Feels appropriate to review them together as they're possibly the worst Muse tracks to date. Hard to comprehend that a band capable of songs as good as Reapers & the Handler could also produce these two. Offensively bad.

The Globalist - 7/10. As a sequel to Citizen Erased, it's a massive let down. As a song on its own merits, it's a bit all over the place. Middle part is good, but it feels like it should be a different song altogether. Wasted potential.

Drones - 7/10. Interesting attempt, feels a bit out of place, but the whole church vibe is something Muse haven't touched since Megalomania.

Overall, 6/10. Not as bad as the Resistance or the 2nd Law, but it's comfortably behind Showbiz as their 5th best.

  3. This was the one I was most looking forward to after seeing the leaked video. The Queen-esque vocals ruin it. I cringe when I hear them in any song, and it was something I'd hoped they left behind in the Resistance/2nd Law era. Hopefully it'll sound better live.

  4. Feels like wasted potential with this one. The middle part feels completely out of place, not to mention the melody for the entire final third is a mix between Nimrod and Soaked. If they hadn't hyped it up as Citizen Erased part 2, I'd view it differently, but as it is, it's a bit of a letdown.
