yes sure is! (i really have something against german. aha almost made me fail at school) german as the same roots than english, it's just 1000 times more complicated. but yeah, latin roots for italian portuguese and spanish huh-ho, did you choose latin as an option, or is it obligatory? must be a strange language to learn, as it's a dead one.. mmh.
