  1. Advice needed from fellow drummers. I hate my snare, I have a relatively cheapo Ludwig Accent kit with the standard or should I say sub-standard snare. I bought it for my daughter and found myself picking up the sticks again. Anyway, I want a new snare so am looking for recommendations. So far I like the sound of the Pork Pie Big Black Brass (6-1/2 by 14) but can't hear them all, any thoughts.

Now that looks like a 15"

..and there was an image link posted a few pages back that showed Velo-Glide hi-hats (uses a chain like the bass pedal)

  3. it does....use your fingers to measure on screen.

    its definately 11"

15" whould look massive next to the tom and ride.

Fingers ain't very scientific. Mark the size on a piece of paper - or cut and paste a portion of the image. I can upload one later. You will see that the ribbon crasher is longer than half a cymbal on this picture - not that it matters as anything in this pic is so distorted by the wide-angle lens

  4. ... sndrec32?

    Audacity is working out great

Nah, but whenever I go to a club that has a wall screen where they play music videos I can identify every drum component in under 10 seconds of seeing it. As a party trick its gets old pretty fast thoug. And given the amount of Smirnoff I ususally have in me it's probably wrong alot of the time.

So is it an 11" or 15" Ribbon Crasher (answer when you have the optimal amount of Smirnoff in your system)

  5. With perspective and very few good shots it is really hard to figure out the size of the RhythmTech Crasher. It does not look as wide as the 12" tom to me let alone the 14" floor tom - but taking perspective into account as well as the use of a wide-angle lens pushes the size up a bit, but 25%?

  6.

and the IC cam and spring....it doesnt matter! haha

Who said anything about cam / spring? I just asked if he uses the IC Lever-Glide hh905 (with the Kevlar) or the Velo-Glide (with the chain) hh805. From the OOS era pictures a few pages back it looks like (at least used to be) the hh805

  7. Thx Niles - found your follow up post about Avedis = A.. and can't believe how you can i.d. a cymbal by lathes etc - are you a train spotter or a bird spotter too? :D

I think i can say that's the most comprehensive and extensive list published on the internet right now. :yesey:

    thx

  9. It looks like it is on his cymbal stand in both of the OOS era pics. The Jazz kit shows a direct bass drum mount. His current main BH&R clear kit is cymbal mount too. Reckon that mount puts the hi tom exactly where he wants it without compromising with where the mount lets you put it.

  10. Well, close - this does have a a direct mount tom but looks different. Badges are same design. Bass drum does look different - notice the black bass drum hoops .... and hardware (EDIT: actually bass drum looks like a 20" versus the Catalina coming with an 18", the bass drum lugs on Dom's are all chrome and the claws look bigger too... and not sure if Dom's is in champagne or silver sparkle - does not look as dark as the Vintage Champagne Sparkles...)

  11.

Thanks alyssa, this was perfect - I just used it to make some versions of assassin with the fast-riff in repeat mode, one slowed down 25% so I can build up single pedal technique (Hey, I hadn't played in 14 years until I got a kit for my daughter a few months ago). If anyone is interested you can get the mp3's here:

    http://www.fissiontech.com/andrewd/assassin/

I can play Assassin without even using the slide technique or anything. And I can play Knights of Cydonia with ease.

    I'm almost there

  12. Can any of you recommend a cheap or free sound editing software so I can take snippets of songs and put sections in repeat-mode or even slow down sections to make learning songs a little easier?

  13. ...and Adam, mistake or not, your vids on YouTube are awesome - and show your talents (and nipples) well.

One, it proves you could step in if Dom broke his arm (that could be arranged) and two it proves that I could not step in as I have to go back and re-figure some of what I have been playing (or should I say attempting).

  14. Ok, here we go with some abysmal quality youtubez:

    Cassandra Gemini

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OP0J05rAcWE

    Roulette Dares (The Haunt Of)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ll3QwO4QCGU

    Viscera Eyes

    Video tour of my Saturns

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPTgfJ1OTug

If they don't show up they haven't finished getting sodomized, er, processed by the youtube servers.

    EDIT: I don't have a basin cut, either, it's a headband.

DOUBLE EDIT: How long does this processing jazz take? I uploaded them almost an hour ago.

Nice work. I couldn't even begin to try some of that shit. Shame we can't hear you but it certainly looks right

  15. Adam

Try GuitarCenter.com - also let me know if I can help. I have a couple GC's along my route to work.

    cheers

    Z-E-

EDIT: And I took that route today and tried out a few cymbals. Damn nice stuff. I almost walked out with an 18" K Custom Fast Crash or 18" Oriental China Trash (don't think my man-crush is as bad as Adam's) since they really were my fave cymbals in the whole store. They also had some used 14" K Custom Dark Hi-Hats for $150 which sounded really nice but I really want to her the KC Special Dry's to replace my 30-odd year old Avedis Zildjians.
