The Handler, genuine 10/10 song and imo the best song since BH&R

Also TOADA, which is one I'll always defend

Starlight

Been playing a slow version of the piano melody on guitar with a ton of delay and a couple of other effects, similar-ish to the Glorious SBE intro. Sounds real nice anyway, made me remember that it's p lovely.

But yesterday, I finally get Jimmy Kane. Only when I felt that my life is suck, I've done nothing right and look at what others has accomplished... This song calmed me, made me felt like it's okay once again. I like the part of "Your can't confuse yourself - Mimicking no one else - Your can't fake it - You will never make it"

Darkshines - there was a time this was one of my absolute faves and, y’know what, it’s fucking up there again. Love that sci-fi synth in the background of the chorus adding to that almost alien vibe of the solos/bridges. Also used to hate spelling it as one word but find something aesthetically pleasing about doing it now.

Sober - apart from the chorus, this is an absolute banger and I refuse to hear otherwise. Impossible to resist getting a jig on for the beat and riff and Matt’s vocal melody and inflections in certain places (“Arbourler, Jameson, I love you” + that old “Only h*pop*atred remains” live change) is fun to sing along to. Everything Matt does with his old synth pedal is great as well.

Falling Down - such a unique song in their discog imo, and maybe one of my favourite choruses. Love the climbing chords, each one is super satisfying for some reason. “Too late, I already found what I was looking for and it wasn’t you” is a pretty short phrase for a relatively long, slow chord progression but that just makes it super effective imo.

Shine (Acoustic) - how was such a gorgeous song wasted as a b-side? I get that it didn’t really fit on Origin but fuck me. The melody and lyrics are super sweet already but the rain and warbling synths push it over the edge.

Glorious - thanks to that xmas pressie <3 that cascade of looped guitars...lyrics are some of Matt’s few that actually touch me as well.

City Of Delusion - vocals? amazing. bass? unf. DRUMS, esp. in the chorus? fucking urgggh. Strings? stupidly good. Trumpet solo? perfect. Why the fuck didn’t y’all vote this in for SBE?

glad to see showbiz getting some love, I think the band and the public overlooks that album is it is the one that gave them their true sound. And shine? I didn't even know it existed thank you so much now i finally have one more Muse song to discover after listening to everyone of their song god knows how many times. Personally, i think heaps of the 2nd law is heavily underrated but right now im listening to Big Freeze

If you haven’t heard Shine my guess is you have a lot left to discover, starting with Hullabaloo.

Shine electric has some underappreciated guitar and drum work. Nothing I'd put in a best-of list but I savor any time Matt does something more interesting than strumming the basic chord shapes as rhythm.

I do admit I haven't paid much attention to Hullabaloo. Welp, looks like I have some new material to listen to!

Something so satisfying about singing that “aw the truth’s absuuuurd” line.

But yeah, Hullabaloo’s pretty great. Not a bad track on it considering it’s just a b-side comp.

Wait 'til you hear Recess if you haven't already. It's the tits.

The “different take” version was equally as awesome, especially the chorus :awesome:

Never heard that version of Recess. Shiiiiiiiiiiiiit :facemelt:.

I'd love to see them bring it back. I know it's probably be shit, but it would be fun to see it done with the Kitara. It's their only song where some wub wub would actually fit.

The Handler would be rad with some dubstep-like wubs, too, especially during the second verse.

I didn't need to re-appreciate Map of the Problematique, as that's a bona fide Muse classic, but I found a YouTube account of the album half-step down, and it sounds really good. Think its the same tuning as the snippet of MOTP played at the London Olympics.

Revisiting Absolution for the first time in a while, as in properly listening to it without singing or playing along on guitar or doing anything else at the same time. Fallen back in love with Apocalypse Please, Falling Away With You, and Blackout. The whole album's a stunner though.
