LP9: WOTP Discussion/Speculation Thread

So we’ve had our first crumb of news!

...buuuut unfortunately it makes this thread likely redundant for a good while since work on LP9 is apparently gonna start towards the end of this year, meaning we probably won’t see a release until mid-late 2021 💔

Anyway, let’s get this in early to quell the absolute torrent of posts I’m sure are just around the corner.

Other than that, seems like we’ll be returning to the traditional album release format as opposed to the staggered one for ST but that’s all we know so far. No hint of a direction yet.

I’m excited at least 😁

I’d say possible release late 2021 or early 2022 ? Good things take time ! Breaking the 3-years album circle this time?

Emotionally and selfishly, I hope they adhere to the familiar 3-year schedule because I want new music and tour. But I've recently been thinking it would be cool if they pulled a Strokes and took a 7 year break and then return with a comeback album, maybe even double LP. But... maybe for LP10. ;)

Edit: With that said, I'm very excited about this thread; I need an outlet to talk about Muse.

Yeah I’ve backed that idea before but I’m struggling so much atm after just 6 months without them sooooo nah, not for me thx.

So starved of Muse stuff but constantly have them on the brain atm 😩 even if we just had announcements about Global Goal or RAH to look forward to but nope...tumbleweeds atm

I'm comfortable with silence. For now. I might be a little more antsy by the end of the year. But just knowing that they might be in studio by the end of the year is just enough to keep me going. That first in-studio Instagram post always gets my little heart going!

I thought there‘d be more surrounding OOM . Interviews, at least one gig.. but it seems like they put it out to keep us interested while they are away .. but it failed big time with being sold out almost all the time 😞

btw, let‘s make this thread the „talking about Muse“ - thread ok? The Mods are gone anyway 😅 I remember such a thread before the release of Drones, it was packed! Good times 🤘🥳🥂

They can pull a Rammstein, for all I care.

Occasional big shows, small tours, maybe a standalone single release here and there, some side projects of mixed quality, and then an album after a 10 year hiatus that doesn't sound stale or forced. I'd rather wait for 10 years for an album that I can listen to for years than waiting for two years for an album that I only listen to for a month.

Of course the risk with a long hiatus is that if the long awaited new album isn't well received, fans will be extra mad.

They should be familiar with mad fans by now lol

I‘m not laughing at you,  but imagine such a scenario ...

Sad as it sounds, I genuinely do not know what I’d do with myself if Muse went on a hiatus like that. Maybe listen to some other bands, find new hobbies and save up enough money to move out. Christ, I’d be lost.

Don’t think it’d have much of an effect on the ‘quality’ though anyway. They pick whatever vibe they’re feeling and put it out. You’ve just gotta hope it’s a vibe that you’re into. Course, you can like the vibe but not how they tap into it but I don’t think that’s ever a product of rushing themselves.

Anything to avoid another ST. What a crock. Still better than T2L though, tbh.

wtf

The band can be happy that they‘re not on tour atm. In Austria no events over 100 people inside and 500 outside are allowed due to Corona virus .. until beginning of April. Italy is closed completely, maybe more countries will follow or already have, idk.

I do agree with this. They seem to find the necessary inspiration they need pretty quickly. (And just to reiterate: I am perfectly happy with new Muse sooner than later.) With that said, they're a very busy band and have been for most of their career. Taking a longer hiatus would be unprecedented and may yield unpredictable results. I don't think it would be a bad idea, personally. Giving themselves some breathing room, imo, would allow them more time to flesh out ideas, styles, and production. This is purely speculative, but I think we could see something really new and interesting.

Keeping with the tradition of being Mr. Unpopular Opinion (seriously guys, Big Freeze is SO good!), I would like to go on record as saying that I want Muse to do their own equivalent of "Tranquility Base Casino + Hotel". I don't know what that would mean in the world of Muse but I'm thinking fewer singles and a full album of The Void, Exogenesis Symphony, Hoodoo, etc.

I guess it’s time they go back towards a more serious (by their standards) album, since that seems to be a rough pattern they follow. No idea what sonic landscape that’ll take the form of though and I’ve given up wanting/guessing tbh 😂

Would quite like some more ‘weird’ stuff, whatever they go for. More experimental combinations of genres/instruments/tones that they’re not used to. Always refreshing to hear them strip things back slightly and make a song or two that’s less ‘busy’ as well, whatever the genre.

I hope everyone is fine ....

It‘s getting serious in Austria ... I hope every country in the world is going to realize that this pandemic is a serious problem and takes action immediately !! Wake up !

edit: forget about buying those damn tons of toiletpapers 🤦‍♀️
