O2 Silver Clef Award winners Muse have been banned from using their UFO stage prop at next weekend’s T In The Park. But the band are tucking it away for their headline dates in September at London’s Wembley Arena.

Frontman Matt Bellamy, 32, told me at the Nordoff Robbins 02 Silver Clef bash at London’s Hilton hotel on Friday: “We can’t have the UFO at T because of health and safety rules. But our own shows will be the full Muse experience.”

Bonkers stage additions or not, Muse are undoubtedly one of the finest live acts in Britain. And they admit Irish rockers U2 have helped them get that far. Bassist Chris Wolstenholme, 31, said: “We’ve got some ideas for Wembley and we must admit we have taken inspiration from U2. It’s not like we’ve been copying but they’ve been touring so long. Their shows are so bold and structured.

Drummer Dom Howard, 32, said: “We’re probably not going to bring on any other collaborators now we’ve played with The Edge. That’s a career high point.”

It’s hard to believe Muse ever get the wobbles when their gigs appear to run seamlessly. I’ve lost track of the amount of times I’ve seen them and I’ve always been blown away.

But Chris admitted: “In 2008 we were a little bit nervy and overwhelmed and out of our depth.

“We’re going to have the UFOs for Wembley with dancers dangling from them – it will be upping the ante. But no matter how elaborate the stage show we don’t feel the need to dress up in spacesuits. We’re never going to turn up in paint-splattered jeans or be the type of band to have a stylist.”

Fans hoping for new songs at the gigs will have to hang fire.

Chris said: “They’re such big gigs that we don’t have much time for writing. We have no plans to record til next year, even though we have ideas floating around.”

It's a balloon, Matt.;)

Thanks for confirming that, I don't think I could cope with any surprises or -gasp- an unpredictable setlist.

What happened in 2008?

“We’re going to have the UFOs for Wembley with dancers dangling from them – it will be upping the ante.

Errr....isn't that exactly what Muse did last time they played Wembley? :erm:

Yes, the tinfoil suit is much better than a space suit :p

Um, I've seen it said that they have got a stylist!

Yep, I saw that about a month ago... the thread had a link to her site, too, where she lists Muse (although it might've been only Matt as an individual whom she actually styled or shopped for) as a client.

On edit: any contract between Chris and a stylist would probably be declared null and void after he wore that floral shirt the other day (to the Silver Clef Awards), hee-hee... that little number could destroy a stylist's professional reputation overnight!
