In the US the tabloids make up stories, make up sources, make up quotes from fake sources, but they rarely fabricate direct quotes from the celebs they are covering (lawsuits). I'm not sure how this works in the UK. It just seems weird that they would make all that up, but pretty much nothing would shock me anymore.
