This album had actually less promotion! But surely the huge fame bump they got with TR and the last tour influenced this success.

Indeed.

I bow to your mighty information gathering muse s'amuse.

@chartnews : Billboard Hot 100: @Muse's Madness jumps from #79 to #69 in its 6th week (new peak).

:D:D:D

EDIT : I think muse s'amuse will update everything nicely, but here's preview :) !!

This week, Madness' chart position on billboard is :

#69 (+10) hot100

#1(+2) alternative

#3(=) rock

#45(+15) digital

and Based on first-day sales, prediction on first week sales of T2L is 110-120k, which is slightly lower than that of TR. But it may make a debut as No.2 on billboard hot200, which is the highest position for Muse in the US.

Good job forluthien!

Below is another confirmation of what T2L is expected to sell in its debut week. Babel looks like it will have a nearly 75% decline in sales in its second week similar to what Mylo Xyloto experienced a year ago. Muse will perform at least two songs on this weekend's Saturday Night Live in NYC. Let's see if this helps them reach #1 on the American iTunes albums chart on Sunday which is the end of the tracking week for SoundScan.

Muse and Mumford are also in a tight contest for the #1 spot on the UK album chart. We will find out on Sunday who won.

Congrats to Muse!

The 2nd Law bows at #1 on the just released official UK album chart while Madness reaches a new peak of #25 on the singles chart. This is the band's fourth straight debut at the top. It sold 70k copies in its first two days of release.

T2L has also debuted at #1 in the Netherlands and at #2 in both Ireland and Australia. It also likely debuted at #1 in France and Italy and as previously mentioned appears destined to enter at #2 in the USA the Devon trio's highest chart position ever for one of their albums.

Their SNL appearance meanwhile has boosted sales for the album in the USA but the full impact won't be known until later on Sunday. The band's top selling singles on iTunes at the present time are Madness, Uprising, Panic Station and Supremacy.

In the US, The 2nd Law has been sold 100,315 copies first week and will make a debut as #2 on Billboard album chart. The sale itself declined compared to that of TR (First week sales of TR was 128,000 and was #3), but the chart position is the highest debut for Muse so far :)

Approx 100k T2L debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart

Source: HDD/Nielsen SoundScan

Billboard.com will have a story on this later today or Wednesday morning.

SNL impact on Madness sales:

New peak #30 on iTunes and #50 on Spotify. It will likely move up on the Hot 100 chart.

Despite airplay now reaching over 2,000 spins Madness moves down to #2 on the Alternative Songs chart. Mumford could not wait any longer and the label got it to #1.

Those are mighty impressive numbers for France!

Billboard article on final US album sales- T2L is indeed #2 at 101k, Muse’s highest charting album ever!

http:// http://www.billboard.com/news/muse-s-the-2nd-law-leads-seven-top-10-debuts-1007975762.story#/news/muse-s-the-2nd-law-leads-seven-top-10-debuts-1007975762.story

Still, album sales in US came in below early estimates.

muse s’amuse, you hinted that Mumford & Sons’ label did a good job w/ their album. So what’s your opinion on how Warner (or Muse management) has promoted T2L?

Indeed they are! Basically twice the physical sales of TR and thrice the digital ones.

Italian chart for the last week will be out by friday. Yeah, italians are late.
