SMBH used as wake-up call for space shuttle Atlantis

Recommended Posts

Here's one which might interest Matt:

The space shuttle Atlantis is aiming to land in Florida today to wrap up what could be its final voyage into space as NASA's shuttle era draws closer to its end.....

....The shuttle crew awoke today at 12.20 a.m. EDT to sound of the song "Supermassive Black Hole" by the band Muse as a wake-up call from Mission Control. They plan to close the long doors on the shuttle's payload bay at 5:01 a.m. EDT, and make the first engine burn to move out of orbit at 7:41 a.m. EDT.

My brother-in-law uses SMBH as his alarm clock, too. This is even more epic! :D

Good choice, it's been the ring tone on my cell phone for about a year. Good choice there ,too.

So really, they happen to play a pretty mediocre song through a sound system with the intention of waking someone up.

I Work in mission control and can vouch there have been far lamer songs chosen by the crew. I think it was a good choice for landing day.

Yes it was NASA and no arrangement is needed other than the crew selecting their songs preflight with the ground.

SMBH was my ringtone for about 2, maybe 3 years because its a very good song and its very loud

im not sure this is a good quality in an alarm. i like to be woken up gently!

they could have done sing for absolution, whilst hoping that when they return to earth they wouldnt be greeted by the same sight as muse were in the music video lol

also, what an odd detail to mention in the article!
