Jemma
I think a lot of this "new-stuff hate" comes from the familiarity we feel towards the songs of BH&R and previous. During the years between BH&R and The Resistance, there were a lot of gigs, and thus all the songs previous to The Resistance became very familiar. Starlight, Stockholm Syndrome, TiRO, you know what I mean. All classics. So we got very familiar and "cosy" with the songs from the first four albums, and then this new album comes along with a ton of songs we've never heard before. It's outside our "Muse comfort zone". And, well, what happens when you're outside any sort of comfort zone? Add to that how Muse seems to change completely from album to album, too. So the new stuff just takes some getting used to. The reason there's hate isn't just because everyone isn't used to it, some people just genuinely dislike the songs.
