haze015
It's a name guitarists use for gates 'cos they're only aware of one possible application. glitchy random noise?
montgomery
Thrashing? Throwing down hard enough? Pitting? I think i'm on the wrong side of a language barrier. i guess just rocking out like crazy. heres a decent example: 3n0Zi_LDA6I
cheddatom
Who's that band? they sound a bit like Glass Jaw but not as good. I did get what you mean to be honest, I was just being a cock. Do you think that this "thrashing" is just a natural physical representation of their enjoyment? If so, how come so many people do it in the same way? I don't move much on stage and people comment on it, like, i'm not enjoying myself or something, and then I feel akwardly forced into moving around more to convince them i'm enjoying myself, so that they can listen to the music. It's annoying. I prefer coordinated dance routines a la Status Quo.

haze015
you could at least have posted a good example, saw these guys on monday... NQFm_RSYwaI and omgz look, they are using cables one of their support bands on monday, shaped by fate, the guitarist was climbing around the venue as well as bouncing around everywhere even i walk around the venue, it's nothing special. james90
people like that need wireless gear for safety reasons. I can't even hear what they're playing, the sound is so distorted.

It's annoying. i can see why you think it is annoying but you do have to do something to get the crowd pumped up. i would of posted a better example but all other good ones had terrible sound quality. just a side note, the guitarist of burden of a day does cartwheels on stage with his guitars, thats throwing down pretty hard. cheddatom
i can see why you think it is annoying but you do have to do something to get the crowd pumped up. I don't find moving around, or bands that jump all over the stage annoying. I find the fact that you have to do something to get the crowd "pumped up" annoying, as i'd rather be in a situation where people come to listen to the music, like for big bands. (e.g Tool) thats throwing down pretty hard. Do lots of people say that? "throwing down"? I know I was already a bit of a sarcastic cock about it, but, where does that come from? No-one's throwing anything down!

(e.g Tool) yeh tool concerts are ace. you can go to one and appreciate the music instead of spending the whole gig trying to stay on your feet like i did at muse and not really being able to pay any attention to the band ¬_¬

Yeh, except that's what I always do and people comment on it. I think that it's a bit naive to think that you can just play your best and the crowd will enjoy it. It's what I used to think. We're a serious band, and it involves thinking about every aspect of the way the band is represented. Still, I can't force myself to jump all over the stage. Too many pedal changes anyway! james90
Whirlwind cables and Maverick Guitars. ok, back on topic there's a lot of hype about whirlwind cables over here. last time I checked, they were about $9. How good are they (noise, reliability, constuction, etc) ? and I took montgomery's advice and bought a live wire cable. I'll see what those are like. Josh
let me display my recommend high end setup Guitars: Gibson, Fender, PRS, Gretsch Acoustic: Taylors with fishman pickups, Martin, Gibson Bass: Fender, Ernie Ball Music man Amps for elec: Hughes and Kettner custom class, Bogner, Soldano, Orange, for low gain: vox, fender Bass Amps: Ampeg, Mesa, Fender Effects: T.C. electronics G System, or an array of pedals. E.Q.s only hurt your tone when your gear is nice enough Monster cables=overratted, dont waste your money on it. Wireless systems are only good if they cost more than a grand. my hierarchy of tube amp brands: EL34: Marshall < Framus < Rivera < Orange < Hughes and Kettner (custom class) < Bogner 6L6: Peavey < Mesa < Engl < Soldano Nice list you have there. I'm not too keen on Gibson. Apart from the SGs I don't really like much of their stuff. If I had the money I'd have a custom PRS over a Jackson, 'cause the sound of a PRS is just swish. Can't beat the quality. Can't argue with the acousts. Takamine[sp?] are grand aswell. Only tried a Fender bass once before, & the action on it was way too high for my liking, but it was part of the Grammer schools music selction, so yeah. Perhaps a Laney would do well for low gain aswell, they are also quality amps. If if you're happy with the current sound you can get out your equipment, & EQ doesn't hurt as long as you can use it properly. I'm all for shaping sounds further. I wouldn't call myself a metalhead really, but I listen to metal quite alot.. 60% of all music I listen to. But I also listen to jazz, blues, classical & the like. So metalhead with a difference if you will. It's no suprise what I listed would be metalage products.
cheddatom
that's because it is, but really, it doesn't matter what you do, you won't impress everybody. But you could impress the majority. If I'm dying to make music for a living, what is more important? Doing what comes naturally, and flows with me and my band, or trying to make some money by pleasing a crowd that will come back next time. I fell like i'm getting old and it's time to make these awful decisions.

I fell like i'm getting old and it's time to make these awful decisions. that's too much of an assumption that the 'majority' will be consistant and that you aren't a passing trend, just because you have a crowd now doesn't guarantee you'll have one in a year's time, or in a month's time. and just because something is 'popular', doesn't mean everyone will want that, so why not do the opposite and appeal to that crowd? that may even become a trend in the future and you'll be in a better position to well and truly cash in, rather than just an emulation of bands that started a trend............. or you could just not give a shit and have more consistancy.
