I think Matt just REALLY likes Guiding Light, so that's why they keep playing it. I have a feeling that won't change.

I agree, and to be honest I think it's a lot better live than Undisclosed Desires.. I have the same feeling over GL as I did over Invincible, I think they both work brilliantly live, whereas they feel flat on the record to me.

People were complaining just as much about Invincible live back when BHAR was touring. And neither of the above mentioned are 'weak' live in the same way that Endlessly was. All my opinion of course

I would love to see Endlessly live. Quite frankly, out of the songs you mentioned, Endlessly is clearly the better song.

:) In your opinion... I found Endlessly to be dull the times I saw it live, on several occasions. To me it's a flawed attempt at the direction that a lot of their music has now taken over the course of BHAR and Resistance

I kinda feel the reverse over GL - great on record but a bit of a waste of a slot live.

I would love Endlessly to be played live - it sounded amazing on the Absolution Tour DVD.

What I think they are getting wrong in a lot of the gigs live is not so much individual songs (like GL or whatever) is the combination of songs and order of playing them.. there are too many lulls in the sets. I enjoyed Casino de Paris so much as there was a good variety to the order in which they played stuff, plus it felt more like 'the olden days' with being a small venue and having no stage show.

Just watched it back on tv and my overall opinion hasnt changed. The visuals are amazing but it still isnt a patch on the 2004 performance. The sound is still patchy and overall it just failed to lift off.

Uprising was immense, Guiding Light had me falling asleep on the couch (although it was the best sounding GL i have heard yet) , CE failed to give me goosebumps (the only live CE not to do so), Feeling Good was loads of fun, Stockholm Syndrome was the best song of the night with WTSHNN. And that was possibly the dullest KOC ever

I really do think if U2 had headlined the friday they would have put a lot more effort into their performance.

Im starting to think people are moaning about Muse's live output for the sheer sake of it. Cause I really couldn't see anything wrong with they glasto show. Granted the last tour was pretty sub par in terms of fobbing certain shows off with 15 songs then playing 3 more the next one - but for a festival performance there wasn't really much more they could do? What is the elephant in the room I'm missing?

Really, really not.

I know it's frustrating to read the negativity because I get just as frustrated when people pick apart stuff I love (see Doctor Who thread) but there really isn't any more denying the band's lack of arsedness.

I also thought it was pretty much spot on. Glasto '04 and old Muse in general has really been put on a pedestal these days so I doubt anything could match some peoples expectations anymore. I would really say it's down to this and people's song preferences, because it seems to be if they play Bliss or something at a gig you get "Muse are back" and excitement for like a day, then they play GL at the next gig and everyones suddenly selling their Wembley tickets for the 3rd time that month.

It's not even old Muse! Only two-three years ago they were still pushing every expectation! Wembley, with the epic choice of songs, coming up out of the floor, flying girls! V2008 with the Man with a Harmonica and throwing in DEAD STAR! Now their idea of 'they'll never expect this, teehee' is having a stage that looks like a pyramid! Now there seems to be no chance of throwing in random older songs and album tracks. They only started playing MK Ultra on this tour because we cajoled them into it.

But anyway, my point is made, g'night

Actually one more point to be made - I loves Guiding Light :phu::LOL: And NSC, hahaha.

It's Time is Running Out, Supermassive Black Lol and Hysteria that bore me, sorry. :D But I know they'll never stop playing them. It's not just down to choice of songs though is it, it's just... doing something a lil' bit different. Having that crazy energy, that made it all feel improvised. Like they used to.

Gemsy, you're a mod, try and get the message across to the Muse management or something *shrugs*

Tried that. You may have heard of the Beermat Uprising. We wrote notes on beermats and bits of paper and gave them to Kirk. We got MK Ultra added to setlists (we think), but that was about it. It's going to take a serious amount of beermats to get anything more than that.

And I don't think it's our place to say any more. I think as far as they're concerned, they're doing alright. They're still a great live band, and aren't really doing anything that suggests otherwise. Like I said earlier in the thread, they've got their product now.

Which ultimately I still love, and will still pay for it every night if I could, as I said earlier I'd rather see Muse live than not see Muse live, any day of the week. :D

I heard about that, annoyingly because it was played at a gig 5 days AFTER the one I went to :phu:

Maybe you guys could kidnap Matt and burn that godforsaken t-shirt he keeps wearing on stage and maybe it'll break the spell that he's created ( :awesome: )

I don't mind really, I'd rather see an extended setlist or at least one that doesn't count riffs+jams/Nishe etc as songs.

And yes, they could try and throw in at least ONE rarity each gig just to try and shake it up a bit... *Prays for Hyper Music at Wembley*

I've seen all those live at least once and Endlessly is the best on record, and probably slightly better as an overall song than Invincible live, but would only ever work indoors. And was still a low point from the 2003 gig (it was between Space Dementia and Sunburn, clearly a weaker song than those two!) but Muse saw sense and dropped it for Ruled By Secrecy halfway through the tour. If only they had the same sense these days about UD and Guiding Light, or even Invincible in 2007

Moar good piano plzkthx.

If they had that mid section in the set, I would like to think people would stop complaining, but we all know that WOULDN'T happen...

People really rate the HAARP gig and I honestly think it is one of the most average performances they have ever given, SMBH being one of the worst with that nasaly guitar tone.

I thought it was an excellent gig, not their best they seemed to be on form, CE sounds fantastic with that extra synth layer Morgan is adding on. One of the best SMBH versions I have heard in a while.

The only criticism I will agree with is Guiding Light. I really don't know why it is in there. I understand they play the songs they enjoy playing, but even they must feel its out of place.

Wembley was better at the time, I haven't bought HAARP because it sounded fucking dreadful and just feel it would ruin my memory of it from having to think "It sounded better at the time, honestly it did sound better at the time" if I ever watched it.

For those talking about the gig lacking composure and the "oomth" that it should have had then fair enough. But I really don't think you can finalize that decision when just watching it on the TV.

Some of us were there and it sounded awful, all "oompth" was ruined, if it wasn't for Chris' bass being so loud, there'd have been no power at all, sounded better on TV strangely.

The synth layer in Citizen Erased, I didn't hear until I watched it back for example. That said, if they are adding synth strings to songs, what's so fucking hard about a small string section?

HAARP DVD is a bit rubbish, especially compared to the sound of Hullabaloo, and even though they butchered the gig a bit, the Abso Tour DVD.

I noticed the synths in CE, but I'm not sure if that was because I heard them first, or saw the footage of Morgan playing them flash up on the screen. What I don't understand is that if they can add synths to CE, then why not to Cross-Pollination? That song has to played live! It's one of their best!
