LucasWay89
I Know this will get locked/deleted, cos for some reason every discussion has to happen within a limited number of threads. But why don't people like Guiding Light? Personally I LOVE IT, it's the kinda song you wanna sing off a mountain. Every single song on this album is spectacular, it's their best album, no doubt in my mind. And Exogen is the best thing they've ever done. Novus Dies
Cos people love to hate if it doesn't have a New Born style riff in it.
Carbo
For the same reason people hate Invincible. I guess they just don't like ballads? I dunno. Maybe it's just concieved as "boring" to be Muse. Alot of people just like to associate them with whatever happened in the OoS era. Personally I love Guiding Light, I'm surprised to see it's backslash as well, it's like Invincible got amped up with an incredible new melody to boot, and a beautiful outro as well. michaelcj5
I totally agree. People are all whining because there's "no rock," but it's really deep and musical! The composition is genius.
Turkeyleader
Well I certainly don't only listen to Muse for just the rock stuff and I hate this song, lets down the entire album for me. I also liked Invincible.
Mrcookie
I really love it too..! I love everything on the album except the Mon Coeur s'ouvre a ta voix part in I belong to you...
powldodge
Actually I totally agree with you! This is such a powerful and beautiful song!!! I cannot understand why it's so hated... I agree this is their best album (along with OoS) too!
LucasWay89
I don't understand the people who are stuck in the 'Oos was Muse how they should be' mindset, it was 1 of 5 albums, they've released 3 albums since then, and have evolved with every album. There is not the slightest chance in hell we are gonna get anything like Oos again, and that's great, we've had that album, it was spectacular, now its time for more, different pastures. I agree that GL is like an amped up invincible...made it more powerful, bigger, grander, more beautiful....just a less epic solo I do think some just see Muse as a rock band & don't like anything they do that isn't rock. amused232
I don't hate it but I don't look forward to it in the same way I do basically all of the songs on this album and wouldn't decide to put on just this track whereas I would put on most of the others individually if you get what I mean (apart from ESoE and Uprising because I've heard it a lot more than the rest of the album). Having said this I didn't like Invincible or Sing for Absolution very much and I see it as this albums equivalent song.

New Born Lee
It's the worst song on the album but it's probably the best proper ballad they've ever done. Turns out they just needed to make it over-the-top like everything else.
parakiszer
I love Guiding Light because of the lyrics and the music. And my name's Nur Hidayah, is an Arabic name means guiding light. The song, for me shows that we appreciate people that always be with us and inspired us in our lives. (well, sorry my English is not so good)

You ought to be more confident.
Peroxide Pixie
It's cheesy/uplifting which isn't my taste, I do like ballads but if I'm going to listen to a ballad I like it to be beautiful/dark/haunting. For the record this isn't because I only like riffs/OoS etc I love Undisclosed Desires and that doesn't have any riffs.

de7ilznite
I'm in love with it. The solo is amazing and I like its tongue-in-cheek attempt to be a stadium anthem. It's not meant to be taken that seriously. If you understand Matt's self-deprecating style, you'd know this by now.
Peroxide Pixie
That's not a ballad. Really why not? It's nomally a love song which can be dark/haunting/beautiful
JennaFoxLives
Because it's over the top 80s cheese.
Juuso
The song doesn't portray anything interesting to me. The lyrics and singing are annoyingly overbombastic. The simple rhymes are crude. The musical side of it doesn't give anything to grab on to. The synths are corny and uninteresting, the guitar and bass are boring and the solo is unimpressive. It's way too much of a 80's power-ballad reminiscent. It's just average in general.

For the record, I like Invincible; I don't really see the similarities beyond having a guitar solo.
Carbo
Find it so boring. Might be good live though! I have to admit that hearing Invincible be played live was one of the things that made me enjoy the song even more. At first I didn't really like it but after hearing it live, I enjoyed it far more. Ditto to Sing For Absolution and Endlessly, I slagged both of them off but overtime I got more acquainted to the slow, softer and melodic side of Muse. Guiding Light is obviously anything but slow but it's almost like a spiritual successor to Invincible by means.
Furygirl
I'm not over the moon about it, but I like it. It's not my least fave on the album, and it's alot better than Invincible, imo.
