How do people respond when you tell them you are a Muse fan?

Some of you guys are quite harsh on people who only like a few muse tracks, I notice. Its not the same league as punching kittens or liking Hannah Montana, calms downs.

If I hear someone saying 'I like the Knights of Cydonia song' I smile and think if they paid more attention they'd like more hehe. I will not be parading in front of my local Asda with an a-board saying 'Muse Are Gods' any time soon.

Unless someone pays me.

I think people are over-exaggerating their annoyance for people only liking one track (unless it's because of SM (Stephenie Meyer) and SM only). It's more like "Oh, well, you should check them out a little more if you like that."

1."Musee??WHO?"

2."Muse?? But they're so...DARK! Jonas Brothers are better":noey:

3."Muse!I loved Supermassive Black Hole when I first heard it in Twilight"

4."Muse?U're crazy, girl"

5."Yeah Muse..they're alright. I love Hysteria"

6."Muse? I don't know them, why don't you let me listen to some of their songs?"

My face is always  when I get these responses

I usually get one of three reactions.....

"Who's Muse?"

"Uh...okay dude...that's nice. Dunno who they are, but whatever."

or

"cool! I love Muse!!!" me: really!? What's your fave song? I like all their songs but Escape and Ruled by Secrecy are my top two songs respectively. "Oh. I never heard those songs. I just know they sang those songs that were in guitar hero." me: oh...well check 'em out they're a great band! :awesome:

You may not be able to tel...but I only ran in to 3 maybe 4 people who even heard of Muse....and out of the five of us I'm teh only Muse fan  I hate this small town...I wish I'd meet some other Musers. :erm:

I haven't met anyone that doesn't like Muse yet. They're sort of like the Floyd. Haven't met anyone who doesn't like them either. Maybe it's the people I hang out with. :p

OT but I've had a similar experience when I tell people I study physics... sometimes people think I mean like... I don't know... physical therapy.... or like physical education.... so they start talking to me about sports or something :noey:

What gets me is people who criticize others for liking science but then want to use technology scientists have created.

No one i've met has said 'Muse suck ass' to me, except for a good friend, who does it for LOLZ. There's a lot of people who've never heard of them though, which is fine by me, as I don't want Muse = U2  And i'm too old to be bothered by Twilight girlies, thank fuck.

Once I went out on a date with a gorgeous french guy, who actually looks like matt and I said to him "You look a lot like the singer from Muse" and he said.....

"You like that bullshit, record label sold out music?"

me :eek::mad:

And continued " I think the use the same formula over and over again just to sell"

Me: :stunned: I don't think there will be a second date :stunned:

You can order one! :awesome:

Go to http://www.cafepress.com/pwoperrock

I came across it on here awhile back, I'm thinking someone who posts on the board created it.

Sick website thanks for that.

Most people say "Muse, no I don't think I've heard of them"

And now there are alot of Twilight Musers. However good on them if they go out and buy Muses older stuff and love that just as much.

It's either, "Oh them, they're a good band. KoC is cool."

or

"I LOVE Muse!"

Me: "Really?"

them: "Yeah, I have SMBH from the Twilight Soundtrack, and it's sooooo cool!"

Me: "Right. *dissapointed* Their older stuff is good too..."

Them: "Oh. So anyway, Twilight..."

I used to get my hopes up at the beginning of these conversations, but now I've taken to not really believing anyone who tells me they like them anymore.

Oh, and this was my boyfriend:

"Are they the band with that retarded cowboy song my mom loves?" (KoC...)

I agree with the OP, I try not to consider myself a 'fan' of a band until I'm pretty familiar with their discography, and own a minimum of one CD (or maybe two if they have a lot out), because it bugs me so much when other people declare themselves fans of bands I like when they aren't really.

It's a bit annoying, but when people find out I'm a huge Muse fan, they always respond with either:

1, "I love 'Supermassive Black Hole/'Knights of Cydonia!''"

2. "I've never heard of them."

3."Yeah, I love The Muse! (yes, THE Muse! This one's especially irritating, because they obviously don't love Muse that much, since they can't even get the band's name right. This comment is also usually followed by response #1)."

It's probabaly because I live in the US, but I was wondering if anyone else gets similar responses? What do you hear most often?

I'm not saying EVERYONE has to be a Muse fan, but (regarding response #3) I hate when people say they LOVE any band when they've only heard one/two of their songs. That just means they like the SONG (it's kind of like saying you LOVE sushi when the only thing you've tried is a California Roll, which is annoying too).

Maybe it's just me, but I'm usually not quick to claim that I'm a fan of a band until I become more familiar with their discography. I don't think you can make a good judgment of a band's music by just listening to one or two songs, especially when it's a band who has produced several albums already.

I wonder if anyone deals with this too and/or feels the same way.

I feel your pain. Particularly the first one. It's like people either

a) Don't know what the heck they're talking about. As seen when people usually respond with three.

b) Lying.

c) Think that those songs might be the only ones in existence by Muse.

I also get the usual: "Who?" People also think that they misheard me. "News?" My friend hates them based on the fact that they are too alternative (Her words not mine!) for her tastes. I heard other people who ask if Muse is a new band. Oh Grrrrrrr....

My favourite: "What's a Muse?"

My answer: "The awesomest band in existence." (Once I got over my initial shock.)
