You take Ninjutsu! I'm so jealous. I want to take that up, but I've not had much success with finding a local place where they do it. :(

Hello there my good man, well here is a start on finding a Bujinkan dojo close to you check this site out http://www.winjutsu.com/winlinks.html and also i noticed you're in London here is a website of a Dojo in London http://www.bujinkanlondon.org and btw this is the dojo where i train at http://www.bujinkanmanchester.co.uk my Shihan he is awesome, i think he is the highest rank in the northwest he's 11th dan, of course rank is not important its the stuff like Taijutsu which you will learn in the Dojo, thats the important thing, our art is basically based on 9 tradtional Japanese Koryu Bujutsu 3 of them are authentic Ninjutsu 3 of them where used by the Nina of the infamous Iga (present day mie prefecture) region and the other 3 are classical samurai bujutsu. Our grand master is Masaaki Hatsumi and he is the Soke of the following 9 schools that make up the bujinkan style of Ninjutsu/Ninpo/Budo Taijtutsu.

Togakure Ryu Ninpo

Kumogakure Ryu Ninpo

Gyokushin Ryu Ninpo

Koto Ryu Koppojutsu

Gyokko Ryu Koshijutsu

Gikan Ryu Koppojutsu

Shindenfudo Ryu Dackentaijutsu

Kukishinden Ryu Taijutsu

Hontai Takagi Yoshin Ryu Jutaijutsu.

hope you find a dojo and happy training.

i've been doing Ninjutsu for about 18 months now and it is a trully amazing experience, i've learnt quite alot in my dojo, such bikenjutsu which is sword work, Bo, Hanbo and Jojutsu which is stick fighting technique, my 2 fave techniques in hanbojutsu are Koshi Ori which means breaking the hip and Kocho Dori which means capturing the butterfly i've also managed to learn some Shuriken techniques and not many people know what Shuriken means, Shu = Hand Ri = release = Ken = blade. thats quite an interesting part of Bujinkan Ninjutsu, but the core element of the Bujinkan is about learning Taijutsu (meaning Body techniques) Budo Taijutsu is all about timing and distancing your self from the attacker. You will love it.

That's really good to hear! It all sounds so cool! This is my last question I sware :D you say that "Budo Taijutsu is all about timing and distancing your self from the attacker", so does that mean that a lot of Ninjutsu does not involve much hand-to-hand combat as opposed to karate?

no we do have quite alot of hand to hand combat, such as koshijutsu strike to the muscles and Koppojutsu bone breaking methods not to mention dakentaijutsu which are striking attacks, the thing with budo taijutsu is its about getting as many hits in as possible and leaving the fight unscathed, so in effect we do alot based on hand to hand combat, but the main thing is all about "hit and run" so to speak, so if you end up in a fight then try and subdue the assiliant to the best of your ability but always have the option there to make a quick get away. the best thing is to contact a dojo and speak to an instructor they will tell you a bit more about the art. Hope this helps. also if you start training just wear some loose fitting clothing for the time being, and if and when you get inot it properly, then attire you will need would be a black karate or Jujutsu Gi equiped with some black Jika Tabi split toed japanese footwear (you see alot of Ninja pics withe them on lol) and then you can consider buying the weapons which are cheap if you look in the right places such as the net, if you want info on that i can help you. The main weapons you will need are a Bokken (wooden sword) Bo (6ft staff) Hanbo (4ft staff) and a Tanto which is a wooden knife, i think though next year my instructor said that we (our dojo) will be learning the Yari which is the spear so i'll have to fork out 60 quid for one those lol.

Your info has helped me so much! At first I was only interested in Ninjutsu out of all the martial arts judging on what I had researched myself, but it's great to hear some first hand experience! Seriously, thank you! :D how great  and you get to go to Japan next year which is great.

how cool to be the female champion? though that's faaaaaaaar away, heh

hi, actually in the Bujinkan as a rule we do not engage in any sporting competions as most of the stuff you learn would go against the rules of any martial arts sport. Like Soke Masaaki Hatsumi said in a real fight there is no one there to score your ponts and in a real fight you are not awarded a trophy or a medal, the only thing that is valuble to you is your life. also you might wanna check this link out its another London Bujinkan Dojo http://www.shishikudojo.co.uk

Don't mean to scare you, but make sure you eat everything cooked.

I was working in a Japanese restaurant, and a chef told me I should eat out early in a week, because restaurants try to clean out food on the weekend. The Monday 50% off, is a possible super-clean-out of the previous week, so just be careful. ;)

Haha, no need to worry, they don't serve sushi or sashimi and such.

It's good to know that though.

Naoki Urasawa is pretty good!I love Monster and I'm going to buy 20th Century Boys.Hiroki Endo sounds me a lot...what has he done?

wow...am i late or...am i late? ^^; apologies...

the widest known manga to date he has done is Eden, I believe. Here's a basic rundown and here's where you can get a bit more detail in the form of reviews and such.

I'm not sure if he ever did anything else or is planning to do other things (tho i'm sure he has) but the only other manga that i know he did is this compilation of one-shots.

edit: oh, wikipedia has an entry for Eden. Fancy that. Well, knock yourself out.

I need to get a life...

nah, don't worry, you do have a life, you just have more to say about Japan than most of us (or at least me), having been there and all ;)

I want to go there.... *big sigh*... oh well, just a few years left :(

I don't do martial arts, so I can't say anything about that, but Japan is amazing!

Where in Japan will you go?

Man, how I miss Tokyo! Even now, I've been back for almost a year :stunned:

No spot in my city is as polluted as Tokyo is at some places

hello Anno, well i got inot Budo Taijutsu due to the facination with feudal japan, and thats where all of our techniques come from mainly the sengoku jidai period, and also the techniques from Koto Ryu and Gyokko Ryu where also used by the Ninja in the famous Tensho Iga No Ran battle against Oda Nobunaga. i think feudal japanese history is my favourite kind of history, you cant beat it.:D and oh BTW everyone knows Dom Howards, well he was actually born in Stockport which is a town near me, sorry to mention that drivle lol

Hi!

I am having trouble finding some Antic Cafe/AnCafe albums to buy in the UK, so can anyone suggest some Japanese companies perhaps that ship worldwide? Any help would be just spiffy. :)

OMG, my American friend LOVED them. I think she went to about 5 or 6 gigs when we were in Tokyo. She even dressed exactly like Bou, which made her end up with about 200 screaming fan girls running after her, trying to take her picture

But I have no idea where to find their Cd's, sorry.

They knew she wasn't Bou. They were just a bit too enthousiastic once they found out she's American and loves their music AND cosplays as Bou on a regular basis.

I nearly pissed myself lauging when she told me about that
