MartianSpaghettiRider
It’s not really about being persuaded. They obviously chose to work with him for a reason and any suggestions he contributed were agreed with. Also, I love Starlight but let’s not pretend that and a few other recent ‘mellow’ Muse songs aren’t generic and cheesy Also, I don’t see how the genre is inappropriate at all? I bet Starlight was even a badder shock for fans when it was released than this one. In fact, I may find GUAF very generic and too blatantly made for airplay, but it gives me Starlight vibes indeed. Bohemian-Cygnus-Running-Out
Now that's just going too far. Muse often seem to be complimented for sounding like Radiohead, or insulted for sounding like 30stm. Imo, aside from the last 30stm album (easy contender for worst of the year), that’s not a bad spectrum to be on.
matthijs
Sounds like any 30 seconds to mars song.. emo pop.. really bad for Muse Why would you insult 30STM so? I will respectfully disagree.
kueller
This honestly sounds like what a lot of the big 00s alternative bands became over time as they stagnated. I makes me have a special distaste for the song because as odd as Muse's direction became at least they usually weren't that.
frutiger75
based on talent alone, i'll reiterate that sia should've been the guest artist on this track instead of tove lo. and her vocals kinda "fit" w/ muse's sound...in a weird way. not to mention...she has her own demons, and, given the song's deeper meaning, would've added an interesting nuance to the track on that front. then again, she would've probably demanded control of the writing credits, and matt would've balked. as a result, this thing just fails in just about every respect. New Born Lee
Does this song have the worst acronym of any Muse song? GUAF!! It sounds like two pugs smashing into one another.

Clunge
It sounds like a bad onomatopoeia from a spoof 60s comic.
Nicklord
GnR has a song that's acronym TWAT (There was a time) and I see it here and there. I burst out laughing every time GUAF isn't that bad

Nigel_Tufnel
You'd think with an acronym of Double-D that Dig Down would be a better song. At least as good as KOC just to be fair.

Loadius
Still not sure about this song. As someone that lost his wife far too young to cancer, it does resonate with me.
s3ker
I actually rather enjoy the chorus, but there's something about the instrumentation of the verses that feels a bit bland to me. Also think it would've been cool to hear some form of duet instead of only going for the sparse vocal hook. A simple but heartfelt song. The chorus feels touching, to me. That Little Animal
What's the deal with this song? Has it ever even been mentioned by the band, or acknowledged as existing? Have they ever expressed regret over it, or mentioned why they ditched it as a single? Wasn't it supposed to be a "hit single" according to a sticker on the album? Claudia O
As the song is about a very ill uncle of Matt, I think, and he sadly died before or around the albums release, may be the reason they decided to not put it out as a single. But only my thoughts… never heard any talking about it.

But since the album release they’ve treated the song like it doesn’t exist at all.

Man_In_Showbiz
Aftermath is way better than GUAF which is probably their worst ever song to commit to an album.
Bohemian-Cygnus-Running-Out
Unpopular opinion but I love Aftermath and Get Up And Fight. One starts Jimi Hendrix and gets Hey Jude via Queen, and the other would be a massive hit for Green Day or MCR, though with a modern pop flavor. And anyway it's not like it's the worst thing on ST (Dig Down? Thought Contagion?)
Hopix
I maintain that this is a good song, as is Aftermath, although in Aftermath those backing vocals are a bit too much, let's be honest.
