'Synthwave'.

'New Retrowave'.

:erm:.

Can't believe people still react to that genre like this. New Retrowave is not only the main genre for that music but a music label as well and a movement. Check their youtube channel. It is amazing!

What makes it "new"? Compared to just retrowave

New Retrowave is a sub-genre of Synthwave that mimicks the styles made popular in the original 80s boom period. It has several sub-sub-genres, each focusing on one of those mimicked styles.

Sub-sub genres for instance:

Dreamwave, Darkwave/Horror or Slasherwave, Outrun, etc etc.

Original description:

"New Retrowave is a musical genre that harnesses the inspiration and authenticity of 80's and early 90's music for today's generation. Since the EST. on Nov 2011, NewRetroWave has grown and evolved into a prominent online musical force."

But isn’t that exactly what’s Retrowave is?

When I google your description I get the exact same sentence to describe “Retrowave”. http://synthwave.wikia.com/wiki/Retrowave

NewRetroWave seems to simply be a label that releases Retrowave music. They themselves even describe it as Retrowave without the “new”. https://newretrowave.com

So you agree that “New” Retrowave isn’t a thing?

It's a thing because it is a record label but either you call it Retrowave or New Retrowave, no difference.

I see where they come from.

But it’s literally just the name of the label. They don’t even call it New Retrowave themselves.

Yes. But that's not what we're talking about. Why do you think I've put emphasis on "new" like 5 times? This was the question that you replied to:
