Bohemian-Cygnus-Running-Out
I was just listening to Slayer's Seasons In The Abyss, and I noticed there's a wicked riff on the title track that sort of resembles the riff of Plug In Baby. It starts around 1:45 in this video: I think they're different enough riffs, and totally different songs, that you can't accuse Matt of ripping (riffing?) off Slayer, but has anyone else ever noticed a similarity between these two riffs? New Born Lee
I don't think it's similar enough to be worthy of comparison. Slayer's riff is the same ascending riff over and over. Muse's is more complex, ascending, ascending again, arpeggiating down and up and back again. Both have different effects that are good in both songs. That Little Animal
At some point in Nightmare Before Christmas there's some pizzicato violins playing the first two bars of the riff in the background. I still think that's where Matt got it from, consciously or subconsciously. Edit: Here it is, right at the beginning (well, 5 secs in): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ry7PcYtKPhA&index=13&list=PLdr5SnPFwH1h3GXvGgypm-Gf9o5CR-EIT Edited July 14, 2018 by That Little Animal
