mrcrapstick99
If my memory serves me correctly this song was never played live due to its difficulty. I love it and I reckon they would now be able to if they gave it a shot. Anyone agree?
LiT
I heard an early live version of the song. The early name of the song was Spectrum. So yes, they played it live. Here it is! This song is really hard live. Especially the falsetto part.

Nimpo46
how do they play it when they record it then? do they piece different parts of the hard riffs together? i always wonder what happens if you keep messing up with stuff when you're recording it... can the editors fix it? Clunge
The bass is easy, no harder than Hysteria or New Born to keep up live.

Conxscience
Bellzor said fuck! Made me lol, why? :| I think I've heard it live somewhere... Maybe I'm making that up. I don't know. I think I actually have it as uh... -looks at iPod- Spectrum (live). I think that's Futurism... whether it's the right title or not, I don't know. But it sounds very hard to play... Clunge
Yup, New Born fucks your hand up. Futurism can be played really easily using open notes and octaves.
Juuso
What is hard about Futurism is the vocal parts, it's completely killing Matthew in the live recording and considering he wasn't much of a singer in the earlier days, it's easy to see why it hasn't ever been a popular by them. They could look into it now though, I do enjoy the song quite much.

Yeah, you can edit out mistakes in a recording. They are called punch-in's. Usually (if they're using software, which Muse does use in the studio) you'll highlight the section of music thats messed up, and record over it, playing the correct way. That way, only that section is fixed and it should be a seamless edit.

lachlan
Yeah it's the vocals that are too hard. The chorus is constantly up in Matt's absolutely highest chest voice range, with a whole lot og G sharps.
seregon
Awww Matt ruined it by swearing I like changing the lyrics to "Come and crush apples"
Caff
I kinda liked Spectrum, you have to remember it was from a time where their live performances weren't so polished anyway and their career was still quite young! Futurism is one of my favourite bsides though.
Nimpo46
Then my question is, why didn't they correct the mistake matt made in the Ruled By Secrecy solo?
