I've never seen anyone hand out water at an arena show.

They certainly don't in Phoenix Arizona where it's 40 degrees plus the temperature of being on the floor in a closed arena. This would be okay if they were actually selling on the barrier, but they make you leave and security won't let your friends hold your spot.

Oh. Interesting

So yeah! Oslo's getting white beach balls with a tap light taped to them punted into the crowd.

And then an 8 minute break while they round up and pop them all before getting on with the gig.

They just give out water at front row gigs over there?? I don't think that happens in the US (barring some festivals... when it's super hot).

Socialism. :noey:

They did it right down the front at some gigs I went to. Pretty sure they gave out water at Muse Stadium shows in '10. They did at Wembley to me anyway.

It's extremely uncommon now days (in the US,) and even becoming very rare in smaller venues, unless the band throws it out.

Possibly liability, as a ton of poor shits at Webster got mono from one another :chuckle: but likely just so they can charge you $6 for water in a cup.

Last night was the first time I've ever experienced water not being given out. Download and Rock Werchter had water given out regularly. So did the stadium gigs I was at, though tbf id they didnt hand out water at Emirates night 2 I'm pretty sure a lot of people wouldve collapsed due to the extreme heat, moshing and the fact that about half the crowd was probably badly sunburned. Most of the time I've seen the security bring out massive barrels of water and just stick a cup in it whenever someone asks for it.

Actually that's a good way to describe how bad the Dublin crowd was, at least behind me. Normally it's like, ok, got water, take a sip or two and pass it behind me. At Dublin I got water and every time I asked people if they wanted some they were just like nah and gave me more dirty looks for jumping / head banging.

It would certainly be nice. Back in the US's moshing hey day, people would be continuously being pulled out of the pit passed out, or near to.

Don't remember once having water handed out, just one time we were being sprayed with a Super Soaker at an outdoor festival, and people were trying to drink it.

It doesn't help that people often dehydrate themselves so they can wait in line, or keep their spot, either.

Americans love to get fucked in the ass as consumers when there's profit to be had, but they're not selling on the barrier and I don't know why. I can guarantee that hiring a water guy to walk the barrier would be more than profitable at $4 a bottle, hell raise it a dollar for people on the barrier because we're desperate. Two sales to cover that guy's hourly wage?

These venues are so overstaffed too, send one of them to sell water to the people who are about to pass out from heatstroke.

I wrote "also maybe" as a way to differentiate Brixton Academy from places like Wembley, The O2, etc. Maybe it needed to be in size 23 font, bold and bright neon pink.

If that's how you want to be...

For starters, Wembley is a stadium. The Arena is not Wembley Arena anymore, it's The SSE Arena.

Second, why mention it then? Differentiating doesn't matter when it hasn't any direct association with the original point. The fact that it was ARENAS, not ACADEMIES was presumably stated for a reason.

One more complaint about last night, but this is no fault of Muses. The arena didnt hand out any water along the barrier. Really, really strange. I asked for water a few times and at first I was old it would come eventually and then I was told I'd have to leave the crowd and go outside to the bar for water. The complete opposite of Dublin where the security guy gave us water as soon as we went in and kept bringing over 6-7 cups at a time to me and everyone else around me at the barrier.

Wasn't that hot in there last night, I was just a few down from you on stage right plus most people in there last night where standing round gormlessly. ( insert joke about Matt and Chris here )

I've been to quite a few gigs in there where security are literally forcing water into people down the front. Think the stage setup helped with no mad barrier crush.

There was actually about five guys right behind me whacked off their heads on something starting pits every possible chance. One of them grabbed my bands drummers hand during The Globalist and started slow dancing with him.

They just GIVE out water??? For FREE???

(but yes, they do)

I've seen it at some festivals. Never at arena shows. Never been to a stadium show. I bring my own for festivals mostly.

Speaking of bringing things into gigs... after the metal detector, and being wanded (all whilst being soundly shouted at) I was frisked so thoroughly PICKING UP MY TICKETS in DC that I needed to rearrange my undergarments afterwards, I had to take my belt off, and they confiscated my medication even though I had the leaflet the described it down to the color and numbers on the pills, and what they were for, and a little keychain I bought in Philly on the ride and forgot in my pocket.

Still broken up a bit about the keychain; have a long tradition of buying them when I travel to gigs.

Going without meds wasn't a picnic, either.

I'll add I went through TSA airport security twice with the same pills in my pocket, and about 12 other bottles of pills in my bag, and no one gave two shits or looked at the labels.

Is this normal, or is it just crazy because it's DC?

I could probably bring a firearm into a Minnesotan gig and no one would ever know.

Was a bit intimidating.

So.... this is the energetic atmosphere seen in legendary Mexican crowds.... woah

I was more referring to people selling things at gigs is distracting.

But, I mean, yeah, there's a good reason I was so infuriated that Matt put us all down.

People get into Glasgow gigs with knifes all the time. You get no search or scan at all. Nothing, you just show your ticket and walk in. Worrying

There's got to be a happy medium where I don't get fingers under my bra wire. :erm:

I remember seeing people throw laughing gas canisters around at an Arctic Monkeys gig at Finsbury Park in 2014. That was quite bizarre, not to mention dangerous.

Socialism in a bottle :phu:

Isn't this thing about the only water handed out being in expensive bottles one of the factors that lead to the Woodstock 99 riots?

I'm perfectly aware Wembley Arena is branded with some unpopular energy company and that the stadium next door is a bigger venue used for higher profile events. Been inside both & everything.

I mentioned it because I think I can remember being handed water there, even though its a 4,500-5,000 venue and some people were saying its not even handed out in bigger venues in other places. Just an idle throwaway observation we're probably going into in way too great a detail.

Yeah, supposedly people couldn't afford water, and thought the corporatization was a slap in the face of the spirit of the festival.

In reality, I think people just like to burn shit.

Doesn't that regularly happen at Leeds, or one of those, for no reason?
