If you could re-order/re-track a Muse album, how would you do it?

I used to like BHAR a LOT, but over the past 2 years it's gone off me. It's just a bit gimmicky, there's nothing I can revisit any more. Almost like there's zero emotion at all in it
But but...

 

Invincible and MOTP.

If I were to combine + rank the tracklists, a lot of BH&R would be above most OOS songs:

Invincible always felt, to me, like the equivalent of throwing my arms around a drunken mate and bellowing, "together we're invincible" into his face whilst spilling beer down my own shirt and vomiting onto my shoes.

 

In any case, I'd gladly swap Revolt with it in Drones tracklist (although I like Revolt): I believe a combination like: [Reapers-The Handler-Defector-Invincible-a stripped-down guitar/piano version of Aftermath] would be utterly ace and give Drones a quite perfect status as a masterpiece. :D

I'd take out Starlight, Invincible and Exo-Politics and insert Glorious and Easily. It's not that I dislike the aforementioned songs, it's just that these other songs fit better onto the album. I'd re-structure as follows:

 

1. Take a Bow

2. Supermassive Black Hole

3. Map of the Problematique

4. Assassin (GOB)

5. Soldier's Poem

6. Glorious

7. Easily

8. City of Delusion

9. Hoodoo

10. Knights of Cydonia

 

10 songs may be a bit short but I really enjoy the flow.

Out of all the songs you could take out to help flow, you took out those and left Soldier's Poem?

I love the contrast between the heaviness of Assassin to the soothing nature of Soldier's Poem. The transition then into Glorious sounds brilliant.

 

Starlight is just in an awkward position on the album, don't know where else to put it. Then it's simply Glorious vs Invincible and Easily vs Exo-Politics. I don't dislike these songs, I just think the b-sides are better suited.

So, I know the title is pretty bad and campy. but that aside, I think this is a pretty decent album:

 

1. Uprising

2. Panic Station

3. Mercy

4. Reapers

5. Undisclosed Desires

6. Supremacy

7. MK Ultra

8. Dead Inside

9. Exogenesis 3 Redemption

10. Madness

11. The Handler

12. Animals

13. Survival

14. Psycho

15. Drones

And also a little cover for that. I have NOT created the image, I don't know who did, but credit goes to someone else, I just took the liberty and added the title of the album.

 

 

So what do you think?

Is this a good list of the stuff you want to keep from Muse 3 lesser albums? Did I leave something out? Put too much in?

Try making a playlist of this yourself and give it a listen, it has a nice flow I think.

Not a big fan of the song list, but great to see that you're still doing music on your own. Like the new website.

 

Okay anyway, I have personally basically divided BH&R, TR, T2L and Drones into two albums.

 

Album 1 for the synthpop fan:

 

Take A Bow

Starlight

Supermassive Black Hole

Map Of The Problematique

Uprising

Follow Me

Madness

Dead Inside

Undisclosed Desires

Easily

MK Ultra

Unsustainable

Isolated System

 

Then I keep changing the second one but the latest version is:

Knights of Cydonia

City of Delusion

Hoodoo

Unnatural Selection

Supremacy

Animals

Assassin

The Handler

Reapers

Exogenesis

 

EDIT: See now I just changed it again.

Could maybe fit Redemption in between The Globalist and Prelude but I thought Redemption into Prelude would be a bit jarring. So, you can end with Redemption or Prelude + Survival depending on your mood/taste. Or Drones, if you're feeling fruity.
