As we have said before, the server is under a lot of strain and if we have to kill off an area the Love Boat is the most vulnerable because you have user profiles now. And seeing as you weren't here when the Love Boat was first made you can't try and defend the different direction it has gone in. What I meant was...there weren't ANY threads about individual users. You could even just delete all the threads that say haven't been active for 6 months or more. That would save a huge amount of space. Because it would be like trying to use the banter thread in user profiles. You can only talk to one person at a time and can't hold group conversations - and group conversations are mainly what happens in the loveboats! I must admit I often feel a little left out of the leetism that goes on in the Loveboat. :'( I dunno why you can't just have your group conversations in the Banter area, you can still talk amongst yourselves, seeing as you are bantering, and bantering is what Banter's for. And it's not like it's just one conversation and no-one else can join in. When I mention stuff about my dogs in the Banter thread, everyone who doesn't give a toss about dogs just talks about something else. Excuse me? I have no doubt at all that some of the well known posters in there don't even know who I am because I haven't had the time to post much in the last few months. If it's so elitist how comes it's not just the same people that post in there that posted in 2005? I don't understand that way of thinking at all. Surely just posting in your own little corners of the board where people generally don't go is more elitist? Like, you have your own little social group the same as there are loads of little social groups in all areas of the board so how is it any different? You just get different vibes. It may be obvious that I have had issues with certain parts of the board and just find it difficult to post because if I get a certain vibe I just don't feel comfortable. Like the Banter thread but even larger, far more friendly (without the politics or elitism) and far more diverse. It also acts as an important social help area, enabling people to communicate with friends they have made on here without being ignored or ridiculed and enabling them to work through problems - as well of course the more usual function of just communicating with people on here with more ease and personalisation than can be found in a thread like banter. The loveboats are just private banter threads that move much slower and allow for topical or not topical discussion... whatever you want. It's much easier to follow and much more personal than banter. But I'm talking about the loveboat threads that get thousands or posts... yeah, they might start off with a bit of lovey crap, but the big ones quickly evolve into intelligent conversation. And people seem (to me anyway) to behave better in the loveboats. Less whining and flaming bitching and general douchebaggery. The loveboats are just so much more comfortable. You talk to who you want to as opposed to one giant general discussion thread that everyone posts to at once. The argument that they're redundant after the profile commenting function thingy isn't unfair though, I think.
