wonky tele thing arrived yesterday, but it needs a cleaning (not surprising since it was next to one of Jim's old guitars)

What would be the best way to clean a neck with this finish? Or is this actually a finish? seems to be really thin like a sealer or something

I have some water based polish, but I don't know if that will be safe. I tried it on a small area and it cleaned it up nicely, but I don't know if I should do the whole neck

That's what I thought. Just got a little nervous since the bottle said it was for "finished surfaces" and this barely has a finish.

Seems to have worked though. Neck hasn't turned into a pretzel shape or anything.. yet

Also, I was disappointed to find that it doesn't actually have a special blend knob, but two separate volume controls and a tone control. Sorry Bs.

Pretty much summer time now, so I've got some guitars that need adjustments. Ordered loads of strings today.

Wet sanded and if it didn't rain I would've sprayed the blue. Already starting some planning for build number 3... This time I'll be doing a stratocaster variant of some kind. Probably going with a black/gold theme. Picking up a buddy of mine from California at the airport tomorrow and another friend is coming from Canada. Fellow guitar nuts.

Update... Just ordered a neck from Warmoth for the 3rd build. Will post pics when it arrives.

Nice one. What's the neck pickup? seymour duncan hot rails sort of thing?

Also, wasn't really sure where to post this, but any recommendations for a tele bridge? I've got an unbranded 3 saddle wintaeg style one on that guitar I just got, and I need to replace it because 1) it's filthy and 2) the height adjustment screws are a bit of a problem if you rest your hand on the bridge.

Thinking the modern gotoh 6 saddle or maybe even a mastery.

the mastery is over $100 more and currently sold out, so I'm leaning towards the gotoh (which will probably be a noticeable improvement over the stock bridge anyway)

Have you seen the ones PRS are using on the new 'cheap USA' models? They're trick, whilst retaining three saddle toanz. I'd get one of those if that's even possible.

The ones with two saddles? Only others I saw had strat type bridges.

I don't see any others besides those, and I'd prefer the full sized bridge that surrounds the pickup.

James, you are correct, I was referring to the PRS S2 Vela which does indeed have two bridge saddles, my apologies. I still think it's a brilliant solution though.

I guess though that if you really want a tele bridge, get a tele bridge!

EDIT: Just to say that I would avoid cast saddles likesuchas the modern bridge you linked. I don't think they sound the same as proper brass saddles. Your mileage may vary.

But doesn't more saddles mean more intonations?

And I don't necessarily need brass saddles. I don't even know what it has now - I think they're actually finished in gold :wtf: They're the same color as the baseplate.

I might look into this... I've got one of their bridges on the AF custom I had done a while back and it's pretty good

Not much more than the gotoh either.

Looks nice, but those height screws will probably be annoying.

More saddles usually means better intonation, but the PRS uses the same tilting saddle design as the Mastery, which allows you to set the intonation pretty much correct for two out of the three strings, and with fewer moving parts which in my eyes is always a bonus.

Roasted Maple... Yummy!!!

Nice. Satin finish?

I got a roasted maple neck from musikraft as warmoth wasn't offering them at the time, except musikraft doesn't really offer proper finishes. Seems like a great quality neck otherwise.

Mainly for Jaicen (though I suppose Niel could answer this too) :ninja:

I noticed the other day that the fuzz factory in one of these guitars doesn't seem to fully switch off.

Sort of.

The signal itself doesn't appear to be affected, but the stab and comp controls seem to make a bit of noise when turned. No oscillation, but more of a static noise.

I already replaced the switch when the original broke a while back, but I can't remember if it did this before. Seems to work fine other than that... same battery has been in there forever, so I can't imagine it's on all the time...

or is this normal? Not sure what to check first

Check how the switch is wired. If it's not wired so it grounds the input, it can start oscillating on its own which can be picked up by the pickups as interference. The one you have is probably wired to leave the input and outputs unconnected in bypass. Does that make sense?

Yeah I think I understand. I'll try to get a picture of the switch wiring later.

Is it a problem to leave it wired like that? It doesn't appear to cause any issues besides getting a slight static-y noise when turning the pots when it's bypassed. Other than that, everything seems to be functioning normally. I imagine it was wired like that before - I didn't understand how the switch worked at the time, but it's wired up the same way as the old switch (or at least it should be)

Hey guys, I need a bit of help deciding what paint to go for.

I'm probably going to go for a glitter finish and I was thinking about being a bit different and trying a matt finish with glitter. I've only seen glitter + gloss finishes, so I was wondering if anyone had tried matt+glitter before. I keep going over it in my head and what worries me is that it'll basically just look like crap. But then again, if it works it could look pretty cool. Also, I'm probably going to use nitro but is it thick enough for glitter, especially if it's matt?
