Okay, listing 120 items is extremely hard. This list will most definitely be off, because I've listened to a few of these songs for the first time today while looking through your guys' lists to make my own. While doing stuff, I've been listening to lots of Muse today and placing them where I thought they should go on the list. I already had 55 from before, and have been making this list since this morning on/off. Some songs take multiple listens to fully enjoy and I appreciate that, so some could easily be way off, but I have tried to be as accurate as possible to my personal enjoyment.

I'd additionally like to thank this thread for showing me Hyper Chondriac Music and Execution Commentary, which makes Micro Cuts sound coherent and Panic Station look sane :D

You have to be insane to do this list.

I like making lists. Ranking things satisfies my perfectionist needs. May be a trait of AS or something, but ranking things is one of my favourite things. It puts things into perspective. I find it too hard to rate things, but I know how much I enjoyed something in relation to other things if I rank them.

:noey: Some of these are SO, SO WRONG. WRONG! :p

Not mine though obvs, mine is gospel and should be followed as such

This shit on the other hand:

Ruled by Secrecy (112)

Nishe (122)

It's subjective. I Think Ruled by Secrecy is easily Absolution's worst. Hasn't got much going for it. And there's hardly anything at all in Nishe anyway. I certainly disagree with a lot of your list, too. Hoodoo's placing really shocks me.

(I'm only jesting, you can like what you want)

I don't get how you don't think RBS has much going for it. There's the piano, the vocals, the climax, the lyrics, the vibe...are you sure you aren't confusing it with TOADA? :chuckle:

Nishe is probably their most restrained full-band song, along with Screenager, and it's easily one of the nicest sounding and feeling things they've ever done for that reason imo. No strings, no fancy playing, just smoooooth ridin'. It's got a tinge of trip-hop to it as well, which is always something I kinda wanted Muse to dabble with a little bit.

You're surprised that I like Hoodoo? :erm:

I guess the reason why I put the songs that I did towards the top is because the two most appealing things about Muse's music to me is the meaning of the piece and the emotion that's behind the song, which is usually found in the fancy playing and sting songs. That's probably why Nishe is lower down for me. It sounds great and its got a good groove, but I feel like there's not enough going on in terms of feeling. I guess that's kind of the point, but that's just my opinion. :/

Complete opposite for me.

I find that the more stripped-back, simple and intimate songs are the ones that hit home the most emotionally e.g. Hyper Chondriac Music, Screenager and Con-Science. If anything, too much faff takes away from the emotion and leaves a song feeling too cold and disconnected imo.

I think that the reason RBS is often considered boring or uneventful by some is because it's at the end of a very intense album, and you kinda zone out at that point unless you actively listen to it. I overlooked it for years before I actually listened to it properly. And live performances like Earls Court 2004 certainly helped me change my mind.

I made a list like this when I was unemployed (2010, so only up to Resistance) and only considered album tracks. Took more or less a whole afternoon until it looked right. No way I could do a list twice as long with a job & be happy with it

Tried to do a top 20 recently, was difficult enough as after a core of about 7 tracks that I've always adored, there's another 40/50 odd that I struggle to put in any order as my opinion of them depends on all kinds of things, from my mood, to the time of day, to whether I'm walking/sitting/driving/on public transport, to the weather.

No. I'm surprised at it's placing. I like almost all Muse songs. The ones at the very bottom are the ones I just don't have any feelings towards. I'm conflicted on Madness, though. That's the only song I could say that I don't actually like, but at the same time there are parts of it that I do like. I can't decide on whether I like it.

I think Soaked is the last song on my list that I actually like. It can depend on my mood, too. I am more fond of the faster Muse songs. My mind is extremely fast. I can't just sit down and relaxingly listen to music; it'd drive me crazy. I've got to be doing something. A fast song allows my brain to move along faster and I can imagine a much more exciting scenario in my head. Exciting and fast, that is. I guess they can be slow, as long as they're dark. As you can see from my top Muse songs, most are dark, seductive and/or twisted. After the dark and twisted songs, I enjoy the faster, heavier songs, mainly.
