I'm surprised to see how unpopular Drones (the song) is. I mean come on, Aftermath's ending is so awful.

Still better than a lazy rip off of a choir song with crap lyrics added. The Globalist should have been the last song, that is where i push the stop button. Aftermath is one of my favourites from Drones.

Screenager has got most votes, because what song from that album is actually worse? Screenager is good song on an album with 10 greats lol. Feeling Good was one of the best covers ever made :)

If you're upset about "lazy ripoffs" you should probably stop before The Globalist. And "crap lyrics" begin right after Dead Inside. :chuckle:

I still love the entire album, somehow.

And having Drones be separate from The Globalist was a later addition (subtraction?) anyhow, as Matt multiple times said the song was 13 minutes long and ended with the singing 'of the ghosts of people killed by drones that would never see justice.'

The use of the word "drone" in the song 47 times is a bit off putting, I'll admit, but it's beautiful still.

Feeling Good isn't even in my top covers by Muse.

Something tells me recording a song like Drones wasn't the result of laziness...

Drones is a lot of things but certainly isn't lazy.

Great minds think alike, lol.

Maybe lazy wasnt the right word, the multi layered vocals are clever, it just could have done with an organ music track Megalomania style or something :)

I imagine it's not a terribly easy type of music to write, but Matt's got reasons for doing a "cover" or rearrangement of these pieces; it's a well known piece of historical religious music, and he liked the "juxtaposition" of that with the lyrics about modern technology. It fit his ideas of the human spirit being eradicated by machines, and fit the funerary theme of that part of the song.

And it's damn pretty.

Hyper Music, PIB, Feeling Good, Micro Cuts and CE.

If only the lyrics were different I would love it. Now I just cringe.

Yeah, it's a shame. I can still enjoy it if I shut out the lyrics and just pay attention to the harmonies though. I have to really pay attention to tell what's being sung anyway so it's pretty easy to do. That one "Are you dead inside?" cuts through awfully though :chuckle:

I don't disagree with the sentiments on Drones' lyrics at all. It sounds absolutely beautiful, and I really like the thought behind it and what it is meant to represent.

But the "drones" lines come through almost unintentionally, comically clearly, and I can't say I don't cringe at them.

I've gotten to a point where I can enjoy it a lot more for how it sounds, and I do like it as an ending of TG.

I know I've been critical of the lyrics and tone of Psycho and Revolt in particular, but I'm pretty forgiving of the albums' lyrics as a whole.

All the songs on Origin are great, but Feeling Good is definitely worse than Screenager.

The song "Drones" is a work of art and musicianship at so many levels.

People criticising that song reminds me a episode of the Simpons where everybody is in a campfire and someone start to play a delicate song in the guitar, only for other guy to yell "Cut that crap, we want standard rock!"... then, the guitar player start to play some power chords and sing about getting a girl. Everybody cheers.
