As what others have mentioned, they recorded a live version and that was played back (The Who did the same (and elbow I suppose) )

still sounded great though also Morgan getting a higher billing than Muse was brilliant

Me and my sister kept shouting MORGAN! at the screen whenever we saw him was awesome

Must of been so arkward for matt trying to remenber exactly how the play back goes, pretending to play it and singing at the same time. He probably would of found it easier just playing. Were the other musicians miming? Ed Shiren fumbled the start of wish you were here, so maybe not

Another review that makes no mention of Muse whatsoever.

Aaand another...

And another!!

And surprise, surprise, The Telegraph as well...

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/rockandpopreviews/9467519/Olympic-Closing-Ceremony-London-2012-review.html

And in this Daily Mail summary (although they do appear in their article about NBC cutting performances)

Nothing from The Daily Star...

Nothing in The Independent either...

Have Warner paid off the media to not mention Muse or something? I know there's a few artists who are also skipped but Muse were pretty high profile yet mentions of them seem very rare in the British Media.

...ah finally, The Sun mentions them:

Quote from comment on dailymail article:

"very good however who told the guy from the muse that he could sing? he's either deaf or has a sense of humour If McCartney (with his age- ravaged voice) was bad, there is no word in any language known to man which describes how painful the muse vocal was"

Auch, that's really harsh! It wasn't THAT bad... :/

lol, dailymail

And actually he sang good.

I keep changing my opinion about the performance every other time I listen to it. Depends on my mood really. But I just can't keep getting myself to enjoy that second verse really. Too many bum-notes from what I'm used to from Matt... First verse and chest-note is good though, same goes for last falsetto.

Look for the audience recordings, there it sounded very good. The TV broadcast had the worst sound quality I've ever heard.

Yes, I agree. The mix was totally completely off, and to Matt's defense, all artists sounded crap during that ceremony. Whether the audience recordings just aren't good enough to pick up the bum-notes or it's the TV-mix that made them stand out unfairly much, I'm not sure...

Just thought it was rather weird to have such a huge performance missing. Maybe they were all watching NBC...

Yeah I wouldn't read anything into a Daily Mail comment.

My bet is that he intended Survival to be played half a step down. I can't really see how he'll keep singing it in original key if it's going to become a regular. It's really too much of a strain for him and tbh, I think it'll sound better when it isn't as forced as it was now.
