Drones Album Discussion Thread

I know Muse is a pretty uncool band lately, and has been for the past few years, but I haven't seen the opinions on the old albums change very much. That era of Muse is still regarded highly, or the ones that don't like it now didn't like it then either.

 

Also Endlessly does not belong in that list in the previous post.

 

The only time I think Muse were considered cool was from Absolution - BH&R.

Endlessly is great. If anything the worst song on Abso is FAWY.

 

Probably agree with this, Endlessly has this weird eerie atmosphere which keeps drawing me to it.

Alright let me clarify before I'm burned at the stake here

 

When I said worst track, I meant like what I thought was general fan consensus of each album's worst track. I don't think Endlessly is the worst track on Absolution at all, I just thought that it seems like every album there's always that one track.

 

Although it seems like more people like Endlessly than I thought! I love it personally. So maybe Absolution is an exception to my Muse hypothesis

 

A lot of people don't care for Sing For Absolution. Personally I think ToaDA is the weakest Abso song.

Well it could be shorter indeed. But it's there with Mercy,DI and Psycho in the "mediocre" part of the album. It's just sad the "good/great" portion of the album only includes 3 songs.

80/100. Spot on where I'd rate it. That also said, I'd rate this album somewhere inbetween OoS and BHaR

 

Abso > OoS > Drones > BHaR > TR > Showbiz > T2L

 

I think it's a lot more cohesive an album than T2L or TR was, and naturally I have to rate it as better, and for me, BHaR, while a stellar album, doesn't match some of the better tracks from Drones in Reapers and The Defector for me, although Map of the Problematique and Assassin (GOB) are still right up there.

The main reason this album as a whole really disappointed me was because, for the first time that I can think of, there are multiple songs that I really enjoy the majority of but have sections that majorly bring down the song. There is so much obvious potential that is lost.

 

Examples being Aftermath, The Globalist, and even Revolt. I like the verses alright, but the pre-chorus is THE worst thing I've ever heard from Muse.
