Some older songs lose their live spontaneity and energy when played to a metronome, especially when they set the metronome to a tempo much lower than early performances.

New Born is a big offender, compare these:

Ugh, New Born definitely got the worst of this. Feels so slow compared to past tours.

While I am with everyone else on the "we need much better setlists" thing, my two cents...a few are suggesting a Madness rotation and that makes no sense. It was their biggest US hit by miles. It is always going to need to be in US shows for casual fans. Now, UD is a different story which I could do without.

They're rotating Revolt which is their current single. Sense was never a part of this.

Creep is (one of) Radiohead's biggest song(s) and they hardly ever play that.

But that's only because the cover Muse released on Exogenesis IV put the original song in shame. They know they can't match Muse's version so they opt to forget the song.

Feeling Good needs to die. How is a cover from their second album still being played when they have a ton of their own library to go through?

Also, I don't think either of their Staples shows were sell outs. Tickets were still available for both nights through AXS the night before. I had a couple of empty seats around me last night too.

Staples night 1 was officially a sell out. AXS released tickets for Friday's show at 3pm on Thursday, which is why you saw some floating around. But the arena was packed.

Staples night 2 either sold out late or was close. But the arena was pretty packed for night 2 also.

However, I think that there's only a small handful of other North America shows sold out. The tour's definitely been doing worse than past tours. No one's going to look at this one and claim Muse is the next U2 this time.

^Metronome basically. Something some musicians use (particularly drummers) in their ear pieces to keep on time and to make things match up exactly with any production (video, pyro, etc.) - I'm not sure how this would entirely affect the audience, as it wouldn't be audible. And this probably isn't the first tour Muse have used click tracks.

And that's why that poster seems full of crap. The click track should only be heard in the musician's ears, not the audience's. Not sure how this affects our experience unless he's talking about tempo (like New Born, as everyone's pointed out), which in case he should say tempo.

Reapers is actually the current US single, but yeah.

Is it? Damn, LA radio really is shite, cuz I haven't heard it. Then again, ALT 987 is alternative, and KROQ has been following that route and going away from heavy stuff, so not surprised I haven't heard it on air.

Now, UD is a different story which I could do without.

AGREED.

Radiohead is not the same as Muse. They've turned away from commercialism and put on gigs that are more about the music and artistry of the songs. They stopped playing Creep long ago because it was too popular.

So I decided to conduct a little experiment today.

Made a playlist for the car ride full of a mixture of songs that most board members don't wanna hear at a gig/the songs they say are played for casual muse fans and a couple of songs they feel they only play for the "hardcore minority" and played it to my girlfriend who only has Psycho, Uprising and Madness on her phone and is the definition of a 'casual muse fan.' These were her reactions.

Undisclosed Desires - Ohhhh I really like this one you know I like this one!

Guiding Light - oh no

Resistance - This intro goes on a while doesn't it. When does he start singing? *cue 'is our secret safe'* Oh god I wish he hadn't NEXT

Neutron Star Collision - *laughs* what the hell is this

Hysteria (because it's being rotated with Resistance) - Yeah I like this one better

Feeling Good - Why I don't like this at all

Revolt - This one is fun I like this

Starlight - eh, I don't mind it but it's kinda lame (this surprised me)

I Belong to You - uhhhhh no

Aftermath - I don't dislike it but I've heard you play better ones to me

Reapers - This is cool I really like this one

The Handler - This is my favourite so far I really like his voice

Citizen Erased - Like... It's good... but I don't really like it (she skipped it :stunned: )

Assassin - This has a really long intro too but it's much better (than Resistance) but I don't really like it that much (she skipped it too :stunned: )

Bliss - I've heard this one I like it (gets to Matt's falsetto - I played her the Mayan one) oooo this is cool i like it

Map of the Problematique - This is your favourite right? I like it too it's really cool with the effects

So basically what I got from this is that while they may be justified slightly by saying Assassin and Citizen Erased etc aren't liked as much by the majority of 'casual muse fans' - casual muse fans still dislike Resistance, Guiding Light and some of them don't even like Starlight.

She preferred Bliss, Hysteria, Reapers to the rest and she also ended up enjoying The Handler and Map of the Problematique - this is a girl who loves listening to Top 40 music constantly as well. So like c'mon Muse, get your shit together and play at least one song for the older fans because chances are casual fans will enjoy the spectacle much more than some of the less appealing ones.
