Its worth doing!

Angle the microphone based on where you listen to it from. Check the frequency response as well, if it has a bass roll-off to counteract proximity effect, then get it up close.

Try it off axis by 30-45 degree but yeah, close Mic Will work too.

I record my stuff with a blue snowball, it works best if you have it set against your grillcloth. Haven't noticed any difference where i put it in relation to the XY axis of it but angles change it databasing and makes my tone lose tons of body. Try angling slightly if your tone is bright but otherwise your milage vary on having it straight on. I recommend slightly off center near the lower leftish side of the speaker, but I'm sure that varies hella hard between cabs

Dont have clips ATM I'm at work though, but let me know if you try this and it works.

Thanks for the advice!

Stocking, I tried it against the cloth, off to the side of the speaker and angled about 30 degrees which sounded much better than before. Only problem was the noise that sometimes happens when there's a lot of gain being more noticeable, but it wasn't too bad.

Which setting on your snowball do you use for recording guitar?

Guys, I have a problem:

...

I want more pedals :$

What should I get now? A Keeley Compressor (what is it for anyway?) or Keeley Fuzzhead? How different is the Fuzzhead to the FF?

I wouldn't consider buying it if you don't know what it does. But the video Matthijs posted explains it pretty well.

And the fuzz head is a more 'traditional' fuzz pedal. It's more or less based on a fuzz face... but then again, I understand the fuzz factory is a modified fuzz face too. Or at least that's what Niel told me.

I do think MB uses the fuzz head with the kaoss pad synth patches, rather than the guitar.

That's true James - probably why I sold my first FF and Box of Rock not long after owning them. My Firehawk FX has a compressor thing and bunch of delays/ reverb, so I think those would do for now.

Probably need a Whammy though :$

What'd you think of that Kemper video? New amp for James? :awesome:

I have it set on the first option, but if I see it start clipping, I'll change it to the second setting (-10 dB I think). I also get the hiss from high gain, but I think it's just cause I needed a noise suppressor maybe. I have no solutions for that yet sadly :(

Glad to hear it helped also! It's such a handy mic, especially at the price, got mine scratch and dent for 30 bucks.

Fwiw, the Fuzz Factory is closer to a modified Tonebender, with negative feedback on the first transistor like an LPB. This makes the input buffer work, allowing the negative ground pedal with PNP age trannies, which is also what makes it unstable and prone to squealing.

The noise mostly came from the dodgy fuzz setting I was using so it shouldn't happen much with other settings. $30 for it is a pretty good deal!

You'd probably be better off getting a decent overdrive or distortion pedal first, since the whammy and fuzz factory don't work well together.

I disagree. I run the FF into whammy and delay for instant Fury toanz. That said, I haven't had a ff on the board for a while.

You mean you have it taped on built into your guitar, right?

I'm on my third mainboard for the whammy IV, so yeah. The WhammyWah XP is going strong still, and actually sounds better (shh, I know..).

And no, I no longer own any of the FF's built into guitars, and all the others are unboxed for various reasons, including the one that used to live in a certain SXC Stealth. RIP :(

I tried this list out yesterday, but after like 10 settings it all just sounded the same to me. Ears were buzzing.

Would it be a better idea to get a Whammy V/DT or a Wah Probe?

Also, :facemelt:

Yeah he is. Do you have an SG, Scott? That would tell me a lot about what kind of music you like

With the Mansons I have, I'm obviously a massive Led Zeppelin fanboi.

But then you probably already figured that out. :$

Nah, telecaster.

Status Quo fanboi number 1. Totally isnt a sunburst one and I totally aint a Radiohead fanboi.

Do you have an apple sticker on it? (to show that you endorse apple products that is)

Did he ever show us his Les Paul with the FRX?

Not that I can remember

Got the Marshall one right :nerd:

The Kemper is still so good though. So much want.

So whammy for Fury toanz right? I don't know how to do +1/-1 Octave on the Firehawk, but I can set the FFF one octave down and run it into a +1 octave for something similar enough.

How do you guys set your FF for the Fury fuzz?

That's not how you're supposed to do it. When it says +1/-1 octave, it's one or the other.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoEuI14i9hE

intro is switching between the two, main riff is -1 octave, chorus bit is +1 octave, etc

And keep in mind that this is the harmonizer setting, rather than the standard one.

Fury's guitar tone isn't really that fuzzy. It only sounds fuzzy because Chris's bass IS running through a fuzz and that gives it all that tasty oompfh.
