Jazzthief
Is it just me that finds something special with the iTunes Festival performance of Supermassive Black Hole? Dunno what it is exactly, but when i first saw it, something just seemed fantastic. And Matts guitar sounds incredible. I reckon its also to do with how clear you can hear Chris during it (heck, most songs from that show aswell. Its like his lead songs have given him the boost to perform live a lot easier and louder) but that may just be me... It didnt work very well, backing vocals should remain in the background

It just seemed to be live, that I noticed, he was quite quiet. But iTunes it seemed to matched up a lot better and he sounded fantastic. As I said though, night just be me that feels this way. I always thought it sounded Chris like on the studio, but even if I'm wrong (not got the best ear at times) my point still remains, on the studio version the backing vocals are very clear, however I always felt live they were drowned out. iTunes seemed to change that. As for Knights, I cant really remember that so I'll need to give it another listen. I do wish they'd get rid of that damn Man With a Harmonica. Really tiring of it. The backing vocals in SMBH are clearly Matt. It's actually one of the easiest to determine. Songs like Soldiers Poem are much harder. But all the vocals on SMBH are definitely Matt. Listen to the way he sings "glaciers". And during the "screaming"; listen both to the way he breathes and sings "Supermassive".

I've actually spent the last 6 years on trying to figure out who's doing the backing vocals in Soldier's Poem I've come to the conclusion that it's all Matt... Well that's odd, considering Chris is listed as backing vocals on the studio version. But as I said, the point I was making still stands. It could Justin Beiber doing the studio vocals for all that matters, but live they have never seemed as clear, to me, until itunes!

It could Justin Beiber doing the studio vocals for all that matters, but live they have never seemed as clear, to me, until itunes! I'm fine with the backing vocals being loud, but not so loud that they completely drown out Matt at times. Honestly, Chris' mic was way louder than Matt's at iTunes festival and that's one reason why KoC sounded so bad there. And also, when you're actually seeing them live yourself, the backing vocals sound pretty clear usually. Might depend on the venue, of course. -Invincible-
I guess you've never actually experienced it live then. As a matter of fact, I have, on 4 separate occasions. And at non do I recall the backing vocals being up to iTunes. That may just be my memory of the gig. But from watching it, I instantlyI fell in love with that SMBH performance. Hat
When a screaming Matt is drowned out by a almost whispering Chris, then something is definitely wrong. The backing vocals at the itunes festival were definitely louder than usual, and damn did it sound bad
Nipso
In SMBH the 'glaciers melting' bit is meant to be lead, isn't it? Makes sense for Chris to be louder. I thought it sounded good, the whole gig, not just SMBH. The last part of Madness certainly so.

FabriPav
Isn't there a way to power up Chris' mic just for Save Me? this is a rhetorical question.
Peter.
I currently think this is the best live Muse performance ever. it's just so fucking wild and dark and aneurysm-inducing. [YT] [/YT]
