Whammy - Anybody else just suck at it?

Recommended Posts

So, every now and then I plug in my Whammy all ready to rock out, forgetting that I pretty much suck at any kind of treadle action.

Mostly I use it on a fixed harmony setting, (in truth mostly just 1 octave down). I just feel like the sweep is a bit wrong, it seems to spend too much time in the middle 'out of tune' part of the sweep, if that makes sense. It's not a calibration issue or anything like that, It's the same with the XP100, I think I just don't get it.

So, is it just me?

Yeah I sort of get what you mean. Do you find wah pedals to be the same then?(since you said ANY kind of treadle action)

throw enough delay on and you get away with anything!

That's pretty much my approach!

I'm ok with wah's I actually like a nice wide sweep then!

Does it help if you 'sing' along with what you are trying to achieve? Perhaps you can create some sort of kinetic memory that way to improve your playing.

Nope, me too.

Easy enough to deal with on slower "sweeps" but on faster more rapid ones it gets that out of tune sound more than anything else. I like the Whammy, but not the action of the treadle. That said, it's better than the one on my Boss ME-50 by a mile.

you suck at your whammy? Impressive

No, I dunno, I like it, I'm using it on bass though, usually octave up blended with dry, I like to whammy.

Just improvise. When I play Supermassive, the part when Matt uses kaoss pad, I use the whammy pedal and you just fuck around soloing while using whammy, still sounds good whatever you do:LOL:
