Ewan_fan1
Hi everyone, i have no idea about electric guitars, this one would be my first ever, but i would like to buy one and found this....... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Westfield-Left-Hand-Strat-Style-Electric-Guitar-Purple_W0QQitemZ170234527487QQihZ007QQcategoryZ106458QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262 Are Westfields a good make? tomrulez
Hmm Westfields aren't bad for a first guitar but definitely not the best option, the best beginner guitar is easily the Yamaha Pacifica. http://www.guitar.co.uk/search?s=pacifica&x=0&y=0&b=&d=&min=&max=

Ewan_fan1
i only went for the westfield on as its £69, don't really want to spend a huge amount on my first one - ie. £170. Anyother suggestions
toff
Id say the Yamaha Pacificas the best choice, but if you can't get that, you could always get a Squire,

Royboy
A squire is always a good bet as mentioned. Also this is your first electric guitar, but is it your first ever guitar? If so, I highly recommend buying a right handed model. I am left handed myself, but most of the world is righty, if you learn from day 1 to play righty it comes just as natural as if you were to learn lefty. All personal preference of course, but it is nice to be able to pick up anyone's guitar and be able to play. Same goes for drumming, learn righty, not lefty, or at least learn open hand grip so you can play lefty on a righty kit. That's just my advice, I am sure many will rightfully disagree. Musemonkey1
Get a Yamaha Pacifica. They are serious cool guitars. I had a go on one at a guitar shop and it wasn't too much of a departure from my 400 odd quid Godin.
Ewan_fan1
I have been playing an acoustic guitar for nearly 2 years. Been chatting to my teacher and he says Westfields are for beginners and built to attract them. My playing ability now should warrant a better quality electric guitar. exitmusic
if you've been playing acoustic guitar for 2 years your gonna be sticking to playing guitar its not like its your 1st ever guitar and you don't know if your gonna be playing more than a few months. It might be a better investment in the long run to buy a better quality guitar now can get great quality guitars for under £300 for example all of these below are excellent guitars and will be better in the long run. http://www.andertons.co.uk/acatalog/info_0135102306.html http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/epiphone-les-paul-standard/870 http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/epiphone-g-400/889 http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/epiphone-g-310-sg/

JT
Either of those could work, although I am a bit more partial to the strat shape than a tele

Ewan_fan1
is the only thing the whammy bar does....is distortion?
toff
is the only thing the whammy bar does....is distortion? No. The whammy bar doesnt do distortion. What the whammy bar does is bend the pitch, A good example of it is in the first guitar riff of Knights Of Cydonia, straight after the introduction. Ewan_fan1
ok, cool......thanks Would a whammy bar give you extra skills to achieve?
toff
ok, cool......thanks Would a whammy bar give you extra skills to achieve? Skills? Hmm..well, I suppose there is a certain skill to making it sound decent with what your playing, but that should come pretty easy. But then, having a whammy bar isnt going to affect your playing a great deal, if any at all. Its more of a thing to just play with imo.
