PeedgeMcDuck
Yes. lolno That doesn't change the fact it's great live. Most of their riffs are pretty similar and simplistic anyways, even moreso than Assassin. Name a song with a more simple riff than Assassin... Jobby
Name a song with a more simple riff than Assassin... Supermassive Black Hole, Citizen Erased, The Small Print, Dead Star. That's not the point anyway. Simple riff =/= boring live.

All of those examples are inaccurate. Each of those involves more than 2 notes.
Strangeseas
Musically boring: only 3 total sections....lack of sonic personality.. You keep on using terms that imply musical knowledge, but in fact they are just your opinion. It has a hell lot of "sonic" personality: barbershop quartet vocals, the live played interlude, the scream line "Aim, shoot, kill your leaders"
Jobby
All of those examples are inaccurate. Each of those involves more than 2 notes. lol Because amount of notes = how hard something is to play?

This whole forum is opinion. That's the point of discussion. Also, 2/3 of the things you've listed don't happen when the song is played live. PeedgeMcDuck
lol Because amount of notes = how hard something is to play? Usually, especially considering that one of those notes is the open low D.
Jobby
Also, 2/3 of the things you've listed don't happen when the song is played live. Wrong, only the barbershop quartet isn't done live.
PeedgeMcDuck
so let me get this straight people: Given the chance to successfully request ANY Muse song, some of you would make that request Assassin?

kueller
All of those examples are inaccurate. Each of those involves more than 2 notes. So does Assassin. It's also one of the few drop D riffs from Muse that doesn't base around the open, 3rd and 5th frets
H4N5
They surely have to drop UD for the stadiums if Matt can't do his handshake walk. I think Matt will actually do a handshake walk. IIRC he mentioned that he liked being able to come close to the audience and stuff like that, and that for the stadiums he wanted to do more things like that. So I think that with the stadium design they'll make sure that he can do some handshaking.
PeedgeMcDuck
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=-exWI-hHUPs#t=208s That is a good performance. But they don't play like that anymore. Now, Morgan would cover the verse guitars as Matt would take the mic from the stand and sing to the front row... I miss their energy from this period... PeedgeMcDuck
So does Assassin. It's also one of the few drop D riffs from Muse that doesn't base around the open, 3rd and 5th frets I'm referring the the main riff, which only consists of open and 8th fret on low D. Yes they sound even bigger and tighter as a band now.
PeedgeMcDuck
Yes they sound even bigger and tighter as a band now. Yes they do, I completely agree. But the trade-off is raw energy.
kueller
I'm referring the the main riff, which only consists of open and 8th fret on low D. But that's not the only riff. And it doesn't really matter as long as it works, which it does when played live.

Strangeseas
Given the chance to successfully request ANY Muse song, some of you would make that request Assassin? Because it's one of the more epic, badass Muse song in vein of Citizen Erased and Dead Star. (At least if they play the version, Jobby linked.) We should discuss this topic in the setlists thread.
